DBA were so pleased to welcome back Matt Haig and Chris Mould, the author and illustrator of Father Christmas and Me. This is the third instalment of their Christmas Trilogy and it was launched here in Doncaster at St Peter’s Catholic Primary.

St Peter’s played host to children from all over Doncaster for this exciting event. Children came from Saltersagte, Rosedale, Pheasant Bank, Bessacarr Owston and one from Barnby Dunn.  Despite a technical problem that delayed the start, Matt and Chris really launched Christmas for the children with an enthusiastic and interactive presentation. Many of the children had bought copies of the new book and a few had come along with the others in the trilogy. While Matt talked about Christmas and the main characters in his new book, Chris illustrated with stunning speed. It absolutely amazed the children to see the characters come to life through a few simple lines on the flip chart. Apparently the second book, The Girl Who Saved Christmas, has over 100 illustrations!

Both Matt and Chris spent time signing and chatting to the children after the event. Chris even included his trademark Elf in signing each of the copies. They even found time to chat to a group of the Reception class who were determined to meet a real author.

The response from the children was fantastic with so many of them wanting to answer questions.  Both author Matt and illustrator Chris were kept very busy. They both love visiting Doncaster and I’m sure this won’t be their last visit.  We look forward to seeing what they both produce in the future.
