Murder in the Library

On Wednesday, 27th February, students from Don Valley, NDTC, Hall Cross, Danum and Hayfield, all visited Armthorpe school library for another of Lesley’s famous murder mystery events.

There was a body outlined in chalk on the floor, surrounded by Crime Scene Tape (very CSI!)  It turned out that the victim and suspects were all connected with the Doncaster Book Award short list. The students were given some statements and incident reports, and then had to work in teams to solve the clues. They began, of course, by having their thumb prints taken, to eliminate them from the enquiry! Some of the clues were in Braille, which had to be worked out, there were also pieces of evidence scattered about, and things like footprints and blood splatters to be measured. Some of the clues were found in reviews on the DBA website. 

Along the way, students were warned to look out for a mysterious box which it was thought had been placed in the library as a result of suspected demon activity, but warned not to touch it if found. When it was eventually found, an NDTC student was brave enough to put his hand inside through a narrow hole, where, to his disgust, he encountered some cold, slimy material.  (No, not blood, or demonic slime, but strawberry jelly!) This proved to be a red herring, but as it was full of sweets, no-one was too disappointed.

Each team then got together and compared notes on the clues, and wrote out their solutions, which made very interesting reading!! I won’t give away ‘Whodunnit’, as Lesley will be doing some more of these events in our primary schools. Suffice it to say, it is not straightforward! 

It was a really enjoyable afternoon.  Some Don Valley student comments:
