Hurricane gold and it was great to have a book about James Bond
when he was younger but it was boring and It was complicated to
understand who everyone else is so I rate it 3 out of 10

Thomas from Year 6, Hatfield High School Visual Arts College:

It is a good book but I think it is boring in places. When King
is in the rat run it is very gripping, and i didn't want to put
the book down. That bit is my favourite bit of the story.

I liked it when Whatzat was drowning in oil.
My favourite character was James because he isn't afraid
to die and is cleaver.
I disliked the beginning because it was boring and
confusing.
I would recommend this book because it is just like the
films so people who like watching James Bond will love reading
this book.

Bethany from Year 9, Don Valley School and Performing Arts College:

This book is great, the storyline is really good. I really
liked how it started and then how the tension built up as the
book went on. The story started with the gangsters and then
through the book it kept on going back to them. For the first
3/4 chapters I couldn't put the book down especially with the
human mouse trap, and the tension to find out who had disobeyed
the rules of the secret island, where the gansters lived. It
also helped to see the letters that were sent to James in
comparison to all the adventure. What I liked most about the
book was how it started. My favourite characters in it were
James and JJ. This is because of how they always ended up in
trouble and the journey the go through together. It's a great
book about the young James bond and is a great adventure story.
This book for me was a real page turner and I would definitely
recommend it.

Abie from Year 7, Don Valley School and Performing Arts College:

I thought that this book was very good so I gave it a nine. My
favourite part was when king was being punished and he had to
go through that course. Charlie described the book in excellent
detail witch made the book brilliant. Charlie shouldn't have
made so many characters because its difficult to rember them!

Overall it was a great book!..............

Thomas B from Year 7, Ridgewood School:

I thought that this book left you in suspense after every
chapter. My favourite part was where Mr King ran straight in to
some razor wire and the black panther pulled him off and ate
him. I enjoyed the part where Watzat got sucked into a
sinkhole. I would recommend this book a lot. I can't wait to
read By Royal Command and the rest of the series.

This book was yet another great addition to Charlie Higson's
Young Bond series.
As always it was a very good read and it had a lot of
description.
I recommend this book to anyone who likes adventure or Bond but
I also recommend not reading this one till you've read the rest
first.

Bethany from Year 6, Sunnyfields Primary School:

In the story there were three children named James, Precious
and JJ. They had been kidnapped by people and taken away to
this woman called Mrs Glass, she knew their Dad. James' mate
went back to his home. He used to lead James and he also wrote
him letters of where he had to go. When they get kidnapped
James talks Mexican and this man named Sakata taught him that.
JJ has somethng wrong with him but nobody knows what is wrong.
I think this story is a mystery and action story because it has
bits that when you want to stop reading and sometimes you want
to carry on when it gets really interesting.

Luke from Year 6, Sunnyfields Primary School:

This is an adventure story about a boy called James Bond.
There is guns in it and a bit of horror. I have enjoyed the
adventure side because they travel all over. Most of the time
he doesn't know where he is and he gets lost in a jungles most
of the time. He gets hurt a lot and wears a black coat, black
trousers and a white T-shirt.

Jack from Year 8, Danum School Technology College:

Hurricane Gold is another book in the Young Bond Collection
about James Bond when he was a boy. This book was another good
book in the long list and another enjoyable read. You read the
book from two people's point of view at the beginning of the
story. First you read about the king of Lagrimas Negras, a
Caribbean island where lots of people who have committed a
crime go so the police can't find them. They have to pay a
significant amount of money to the king of the island first,
however. This is how the king of the island gets his money for
a living. Anyone who doesn't pay enough money to stay will be
handed back to the police. The king of the island is called El
Huracan, Spanish for the hurricane. Just like a hurricane, El
Huracan does what he wants, when he wants. He comes out to be a
very nasty character. If anyone disobeys El Huracan's rules,
they will be sent into the rat run, an arena where there are 10
different vicious obstacles to get past. Nobody has ever
survived the rat run. No one has ever even got half way. If you
ever do complete the rat run, you will be shipped off the
island. That is the only way of getting off the island once you
are already on it. So that is about El Huracan. Now onto the
other main character, of course, James Bond. This time James
Bond goes on holiday to Mexico with his aunt. His aunt wants to
explore Mexico, so she leaves James at her friends house while
she goes to explore. James' aunt is called Charmian. Charmian
is delayed from searching around because of a massive storm
that comes to Mexico that ends up killing loads of people.
Meanwhile, James meets two annoying children at his stay. These
children are called Precious and JJ. They are brother and
sister. After getting off to a bad start, James has to save
Precious and JJ from some horrible gang that have broken into
the house. The kids jump out of the window with James and run
to the local town called Puente Nuevo after a short rest
underground in a cellar. They arrive in Puente Nuevo to find
out that it is being flooded. How can they survive this flood?
Read the book to find out! Blimey, I thought I was going to
tell you the whole story to you just then. I enjoyed the book
so much that I rattle on about it too much sometimes! Ok, no
more info on the book! What I shall say is that somehow, El
Huracan and James come together in the story near the end. How
exciting! I really enjoyed reading this book and I would
recommend this book to an older age group because the book can
be quite violent and hard to understand at times. I would
definitely rate the book a 10/10 and I believe it is competing
with Born To Run to win the award.
