Hannah from Year 10, Don Valley School and Performing Arts College:
This book is ok but it drags on a bit. Also through some of it
nothing seems to happen and its a bit boring but the story
behind it is good and if it didn't drag so much then it would
be a good book.
Bethany from Year 6, Sunnyfields Primary School:
UNLIKE SHADOW GOBLINS I THOUGHT THIS BOOK WAS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
B-O-R-I-N-G!!!!!!!!!!
Why you may ask? It is very hard to get into and it just drags
on and on and on and on and on and on and on (get the idea!)
but then again don't let me put you off it were all different
aren't we this is only my opinion
Alex from Year 6, Adwick Park Junior School:
I gave this book a 7 because I thought it wasn't exciting
enough. Plus it needs more adventure.
Megan from Year 10, Ridgewood School:
I really couldnt get into this book. I'm sorry to Will Peterson
but it was boring and I just couldnt get into it even though I
can normally get into every genre
Jessica S from Year 8, Don Valley School and Performing Arts College:
The story is about a boy and a girl who are twins, called Adam
and Rachel. they have to stay with their Gran in a place called
Triskellion. Because they are from New york this area is very
srange to them. The book gets more exciting when they discover
a chalk circle which they both start having weird dreams about.
They set out to discover all the big secrets hidden in
Triskellion.
I thought this was a very good book but I could'nt get into it.
Even at the best bits it didnt have me hooked. At some places I
found myself getting bored.
I liked the characters but I didnt like how some of the
character's personalities changed all of a sudden. For example
the Vicar was really nice at the start but after his church got
broken into he turned really mean, and Dalton nearer the end
turned out to be completly evil!!!
My favourite character has to be Gabriel. Ithought his magical
powers were fantastic! I also thought Adam was a little girly
because he was always holding his sister's hand.
Overall I think this wasnt a brilliant book, but a good one
nonetheless, and I hope i havent given to much away for you
viewers that havent read it yet...
Abie from Year 7, Don Valley School and Performing Arts College:
I gave this book a 6 because i just couldnt get into it. The
book needs a little more excitement and adventure. It was o.k
but it drags on and on. To me is was a little boring. This
shouldnt get through to the final!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bethany from Year 6, Sunnyfields Primary School:
It is about two kids who go on a journey to a place called
Triskellion. They go there to see their Grandma, who lives by
herself. At Triskellion they have no signal at all so they
can't ring their parents.
In this story they have quite a lot of similes and a lot of
description. I liked this book because it was very interesting
and really good.
Abby from Year 6, Sunnyfields Primary School:
The two main characters are a boy and a girl (twin brother and
sister) called Rachel and Adam, who are very special and are
telepathic. They are very modern. There is also another boy
who is a main character, but does not really exist, called
Gabriel. At the end of the story he speeds aways. He is
telepathic too and is a very good friend to Rachel and Adam.
The atmosphere right at the beginning is normal but later on it
gets creepy scary and mysterious. My favourite part was when
Gabriel faded away and Rachel and Adam are reunited with their
mother. The plot is like a puzzle trying to figure out who
Rachel and Adam ancestors are and who Gabriel is and where the
pieces of the Triskellion are.
I would recommend this book for everyone - IT IS BRILL!
Caitlin from Year 6, Mallard Primary School:
At the begining of the book it was really good and exciting but
as you got further into it it started to get boring.
Tia from Year 5, Balby Street Primary School:
When I started to read this book it was pretty boring but then
it got good so 8!!
Semra from Year 9, Danum School Technology College:
this book is taking you through history, it feels scary
sometimes and it's enjoyable. i did get stuck sometimes, that's
because i don't understand some words. i think it will be
allright for you anyway. this story is held in UK. actually
from New York to UK. the style of the book is narrative. adam
and rachel, both twins were send to england from New york to
stay with their grandmothers. they came across things that they
never seen. they found the place very different from the place
where they used to live. this book is wonderful.
i recommend this book to everyone. and the people who
interested in history.
this is a GREAT BOOK:) i suggest you to read..
Clayton from Year 7, Ridgewood School:
I thought the book was a bit hard to get into but once you went
past the first part it was really great.
Mr Belleini from Year 5, McAuley Catholic High School:
First of all - this is a teen book. Why it hasn't been classed
in that category I have no idea. It's not a simple read, it's
complicated and detailed and chilling at times.
But it is brilliant!
The main characters are moving to Britain to escape a messy
family situation. They are going to stay with their Grandma in
the seemingly sleepy and idyllic village of Triskellion.
However, from the moment that they arrive, it is clear that
there is something odd in the air...
As the story goes on it is increasingly clear that beneath the
surface of well-behaved English village life there is a deep
and ancient darkness. This breaks out in night-time rituals,
hidden treasures, primeval tombs and a creepy, powerful boy
called Gabriel.
Dealing with issues like: family break-up (both present and in
the past); lies and their consequences; curses rooted way back
in the mists of time; and how the world we see is not safe and
secure, this book is packed with things to think about.
It is well written, with challenging vocabulary and a structure
that builds the tension bit by bit until there is a very real
risk of death for some of the characters. It has the slow
growing horror that I love so much.
The only real quibble I have with this book is that it is the
first of a trilogy. Just for once it would be nice for a book
to be published that stands on its own and is complete. Not
all of us have time to read as much as we would like!
A great, though challenging read.
Nicola from Year 8, Rossington All Saints School:
School: Rossington All Saints
I LOVED THIS BOOK. IT WAS A CHANGE TO WHAT I USUALLY READ BUT I
WAS GLAD I CHOSE IT. IT HAS AN INTERESTING STORYLINE THAT LEFT
ME HANGING ON FOR MORE. I WOULD LIKE THIS BOOK TO WIN BUT DOUBT
IT AS I SEEM TO BE THE ONLY PERSON WHO LOVED IT.
Rhianne from Year 6, Mallard Primary School:
This book was quite interesting but I think he could have
written it shorter because I couldn't keep to the story very
well. It was a good story but it wasn't written well.
