Vicki from Year 10, Don Valley School and Performing Arts College:
In Indian Summer there is two girls. To start the story you are
reading from Sarla's point of view. She isn't happy as she has
found out that the holiday that her and her mum planned is not
going to happen because her mum has work. That is until she
decides to go to India to see her grandparents Nani and Nana.
When she meets Bina she learns about a whole different world,
Bina's world and all her problems. When you get to Bina's point
of view though she shows you her life in more detail than ever
which I find is really interesting. She shows you that her life
is quite difficult but that she enjoys it to the fullest. I
enjoyed this book as I thought it was different and I had never
read anything like it but I still really enjoyed it. I found
that once I picked it up I really got into it and sometimes I
didn't want to put it down. I can't say that I can think of
anything in the book that I didn't like except for the fact
that I found it a bit confusing in some places. I'd say that
Bina was probably the character that interested me the most as
she was quite quiet when you reading it from Sarla's point of
view, but when you started reading it from Bina's point of view
she had lots of opinions and thoughts which were interesting. I
have to say though I thought this book was very unusual to me
as I have never read anything like it but I still thought it
was brill. This book was quite a long read but still was quite
easy. I would definitely recommend this book as it was
excellent.
Clayton from Year 8, Ridgewood School:
I thought this book was boring and mostly aimed to girls who
like soapish kind of books. But the characters were like real
people in this world.
Maleeha from Year 8, Don Valley School and Performing Arts College:
This book is aboput Sarla and Bina who are totally different
and get to know each other. I enjoyed the book very much
because it tells you about India and the social life over
there. I didn't like the way Jeevan treated Bina and how she
is so stressed. I liked Sarla because she helps Bina fina her
self-confidence. Sarla is British and she likes the way Indian
life evolves. There was a gripping part where Bina is parted
from her mother, and wants to find her. The book is
challenging and quite long. I loved the cover which is bright
orange like the sun. If I was to describe the book in one
sentence, I'd say it had an Indian taste to it.
Paige from Year 7, Don Valley School and Performing Arts College:
I didn't really enoy this book and didn't finish it because I
found it hard to understand. I think Sarla was a good
character, and liked that even though her mother cancelled her
holiday she got to visit her grandparents. I would only
recommend this book to year 9s and 10s.
Alina from Year 7, Don Valley School and Performing Arts College:
This story is about a girl whose Mum has to cancel her summer
holiday. She goes to her grandparents and while she is there
she makes new friends, and actually has a lot of fun, so she
has a good summer and her Mum does not have any problems. My
favourite character was Indya because she was playful and
friendly with other people. The book does make you want to
read on and see what happens. I would recomend this book
mostly to girls, but boys could still read it.
Laura from Year 7, Don Valley School and Performing Arts College:
This story is about a girl called Sarla, whose Mum has got to
work and go somewhere she can't take Sarla. So she goes to her
grandparents for a few weeks and meets her cousin Bina who has
a terrible secret. My favourite characters were Bina and
Sarla, because they're trying to help each other and they have
a similiar worry about their mothers. Some of the book I
didn't like because I didn't understand it, or some of the
chapters were poems or something like that. I would recommend
this book to older readers who might understand it better than
I did. Year 9 upwards I think.
reece from Year 5, Balby Street Primary School:
i didn't like this book it was quite rubbish for me but just
because i don't like it dosen't mean you carn't read it and
fined out for yourself if you do read enjoy it if you like it.
!RUBBISH!
suzannah from Year 9, Rossington All Saints School:
indian summer was a brilliant book and it made you feel like
you were really were in india and it was exiting and it was
good how the two families joined each other for summer andthe
children got to play with each other and the parents got to
relax and not worry about the children and they all ended up
having a great time

Molly from Year 6, Hatfield Manor Junior School:
I think that Indian Summer was a really really good book, it
does have some rude parts in it but children should know about
that anyway.
I would not recommend it to children under 10.
Elinor from Year 8, Danum School Technology College:
This was not a good book. I got to about chapter 3-or-4-ish,
and still could not get into it. In my opinion the story should
already have started by now, not still giving background
information. I gave up on it.
Isaac from Year 6, St Peter's Catholic Primary School:
Indian summer is about a girl called Sarla she was about to go
on a summer hoilday when it has to be cancled to solve a
mystery. Now I can't tell you to much you'll have to read the
book to find out.
Ahmed from Year 9, Hall Cross School:
Sarla longs for a more conventional family as she lives only
with her mum. Her wish comes true when she goes to meet her
grandparents in India. There she discovers families aren't as
simple as they seem.
This story is told from a two girls' point of view which makes
that bit interesting. It also has a interweaved plot. I found
it boring because the subject didn't interest me but girls may
like it.
Jade from Year 6, Hatfield Manor Junior School:
I thought this book wasn't that good but some of it was ok. My
favourite character muat have been Sarla because she was very
interesting. I wouldn't really recommend this book.
Rebecca from Year 6, Hatfield Manor Junior School:
This book wasn't very interesting to me. I thought this book
was quite boring. I didn't finish this book because I wasn't
very interested in it. I would advise some people to read it,
but then I wouldn't advise others to read it.
Elly from Year 6, Hatfield Manor Junior School:
This book was really quite good i would not give it 10 out of
10 but near because it was a good storyline. I would love to
recomend it.
Natalie from Year 6, Saltersgate Primary School:
I didn't really enioy this book and didn't finish it because I
found it hard to understand. I think Sarla was a good
character, and liked that even though her mother cancelled her
holiday, she got to visit her grandparents.
Nicole from Year 6, Sunnyfields Primary School:
I really enjoyed this book because when I read the blurrrb I
didnt but when I started reading I is started to get really
instresting thats why I gave it 10 out of 10.
