Hannah from Year 11, Don Valley School and Performing Arts College:
This book is based mostly on factual information meaning it
could be hard to write a story while also keeping most of the
facts there. I think this story is believeable and could have
happened at that time. The only thing that isn't typical of
this part of history is that the main character is fiesty and
quite different to that of the typical girl when Henry VIII
reigned. I really enjoyed this book and couldn't put it down. I
thought it was cleverly written and would reccommend it to any
confident readers.
Kathleen from Year 6, St Peter's Catholic Primary School:
This thrilling book tells us about how a girl aged just 15
tries to rescue her mother from a tower which her farther has
imprisoned her in.Read this book to find out more. When I was
reading this book I could not put it down. You must read it.
chloe from Year 7, Rossington All Saints School:
this book is about the servaants call it lady in the tower the
isolated part of the castle where eleanor,s mother is
imprisoned after a terrible accusation . for four years
eleanors only comfort has been thier secret notes to one
another . the chance discovery reveals a plot to murder a
murder her mother
Abby from Year 7, Don Valley School and Performing Arts College:
This story is about a girl (Eleanor) who is trying to rescue
her mother who has been locked in a tower by Eleanor's father.
I did enjoy the book because it was interesting, and though it
started slow, it got faster and more exciting. The begining
was the worst part because it was a little bit boring. I liked
Philip Stanton best because he was funny, and Eleanor thought
he was dreamy but hated him at first. It was really exciting
when Eleanor ran away with her Mum. I remember best the part
where Eleanor drugged her father's wine. It is quite a
challenging book. The cover is intriuging and makes you read
it. It is a fantastic historical story.
from Year 6, Barnburgh Primary School:
I didn't like the book that much but that does not mean you
shouldn't read it
from Year 7, Armthorpe School:
This book ia absoloutly brillant, to be honest it is the best
book i have ever read, and trust me i have read I lot. I love
the way it just keeps you woundering what is going to happen
next. I took my time out to read this book and it was most
deffinetly worth all the time i took out. When i saw the book i
knew it woulfd be for me. it is advencherous and fun i am so
gald i spotted it!
Sarah from Year 6, Hatchell Wood Primary School:
I enjoyed this book which is set in Tudor times in the middle
of Henry VIII reign. I don't normally want to read historical
books, but this one has changed my mind. Elizibeth Hungerford's
has been locked up in a tower by her own husband. Elenor
Hungerford (her daughter)trys everything to get her out but is
anyone on her side?
This book is definitively worth reading I highly recommend it
to everyone.
Isobel from Year 9, Danum School Technology College:
OMG I loved this book! The Adventure, The Romance, The
Historical Facts - these are the main content in this book and
it looks good, it sounds good and it's amazing! It starts in
the beautiful life of a lady in the sweet air of tudor England
until one day when Elinor's father imprisons her mother for
being a 'witch'... 4 years on and both Elinor and her Mother
need to escape and quick, BUT is everything as it seems? Is
there always danger round the corner from Elinor's betrothed
lover who's always trying to help or is it Mistress Maria, who
can trust herself, trust worthy? Find out yourself and unravel
the mysteries shrouding this romantic yet upsetting story.
10/10 an amazing story!!!!!!
Jess from Year 9, Don Valley School and Performing Arts College:
I thought this book was outstanding! I loved it!! It had
captured me right from the very beginning.
The Lady in the Tower is about a girl of 15 called Eleanor,
living in her father, Sir Walter’s castle in Farleigh. When she
was just 11, her mother Elizabeth was locked up in the tower
when her father came home one day suspecting his wife of an
affair. Being locked in the tower was her mother’s everlasting
punishment. Eleanor had always loved and respected her father
but that day everything changed. Elizabeth soon finds out that
she is to be betrothed to the Lord Stanton who she despised
from when she first saw him. She all too quickly finds that she
can trust no one.
My favourite character had to be Lord Stanton. Even though,
right from the start he was the enemy. He’s quick witted and
arrogant but he, other than Elizabeth was my favourite
character because even though he acted a pig, I could see he
was good on the inside. He was good fun too.
I absolutely loved this and give it a 10/10 and i definatley
recommend it. A great read.
from Year 6, Hatfield Manor Junior School:
amazing good read for young and teen!
Ross from Year 5, Owston Primary School:
A hard core history thriller! This fabulous paperback contains
some action and a lot of strong feelings. (This is my favourite
book yet!)
Megan from Year 6, Owston Primary School:
I enjoyed this book because I love historical books because I
love all the princesses and queens, also I thought it was funny
when they started arguing about nothing and calling each other
names. I felt sory for Eleanor when she couldn't see her mum
all the time, the only time she could see her were when she
took food to her.
Charlie from Year 6, Owston Primary School:
The Lady in the Tower is full of emotions and atmousfear. I
recomend this book to 11 year olds-15 year olds.
Amy from Year 10, Ridgewood School:
This book is a very factual book and invloves lots of history.
It was an easy read but did not capture me and invlove me in
the story. I would recomend this book to any one who enjoys a
easy read and lots of factual information. I have rated this
book 6 out of 10 because I is not exactly un-put downable but
it was a good story.
Paige from Year 7, Don Valley School and Performing Arts College:
I really like this book because if you like history you will
want to read this book.
It is about a girl named Eleanor and she is trying to save her
Mother even though she knows what will happen if they get
caught.
So if you want to know what happens you will definitly want to
read this Book.
Taylor from Year 6, Sunnyfields Primary School:
I liked the book, but I thought some of the words where hard to
understand and say.But it doesn't mean that other people will
not like it.
8/10 :) :) 8/10
Natalie from Year 6, Saltersgate Primary School:
Suspense and history are in this book. Enthralling story about
Eleanor Hungerford and her family in the sixteenth century.
My favourite character was Eleanor Hunger ford because she was
brave for her mother's safety.
I disliked how uncomfortable it made me feel in places.
I would recommend this book because it is fascinating and makes
you always think about it.
Jessica from Year 6, Saltersgate Primary School:
The book is generally about a young girl called Elonnor who is
on a mission to save her mother from her oddly behaving
father. She also has a gigantic dream to be a horse rider but
her father finds that dream disgraceful.
My favourite character was Elonnor because she is adventrous
and extreamly sweet.
I disliked this book because the history of Elonnor was not
quite what i expected.
I would recommend this book because it was facinating in places
but otherwise i didn't enjoy it.

Shannon from Year 8, Danum School Technology College:
This book was very interesting. It was about a girl called
Elinor and one day she and her mother and little brother were
in the house waiting for their father to come back. They knew
that he was generally kind but that day their lives all
changed. Father got in and locked Elinor's mother up in the
tower. She had been in there for 4 years before attempting
escape. It's tense knowing whether she will or not so you can
only find out in the book. Also will the king find out about
Elinor's father's plot of treason towards the king by
predicting his horoscope.
I would recommend this book to year 7s and over as it has a bit
of bad language. It's definitely a good (and a bit tense at
points) book to read.
Thomas from Year 6, Hatchell Wood Primary School:
And so for the 3rd time in a row I have rated a book 8.
Quite Strange isn't it.And that reminds me I was reading this
comic where this guy...Oh yeah I was supposed to be writing a
book report,Ok here I go.
The lady in the tower was a fairly romantic but exiting book
(exept for at the begining where it was fairly boring but
almost every book is boring at the begining.I was only reading
a bit at a time at first but then I began to really enjoy it
and read from page 40 something to page 317 in 1 and bit days.
I enjoyed eveything about it exept for the begining! 8/10.
Callum B from Year 6, Montagu School, Mexborough:
Well lady in the tower was not the best of books for me. I was
interested in reading it but it did not have that best efect on
me than what the others did. I would recomed it sometimes but i
would say that you might be a little disapointed.
josh from Year 5, Bentley High Street Primary School:
i thought the book was really good because the knight was mean
will from Year 5, Owston Primary School:
i think it was a bit slow and i only got in to it near the end.
jay from Year 7, Don Valley School and Performing Arts College:
it was really gooooooooooooooooddd
Georgia from Year 6, Sunnyfields Primary School:
I really enjoyed the book - particularly the part at the
beggining with the horses. The book is about a women who jousts
and takes part in royal activities. She enjoys to take part in
the activities but sometimes she doesn't. The book is a great
success and I think that other people would love to read this
sometime soon. I think that there was a slight misunderstanding
part in it but it might be me. Once again, I'd love to read
this book: on holiday, at the supermarket, at home, in bed and
whenever I have spare time. My favourite part is: The royal
activities. The woman looks like she had a good time but she
also had some problems in the story - she handled them. I
would definately reccommened this book to family and friends.
Toni from Year 6, Sunnyfields Primary School:
This book was very boring for me and failed to grab my
attention. It simply did not excite me.
I would recommend this book this book to an older girl, maybe
someone around 16 years old.
Andrew from Year 9, Danum School Technology College:
This book starts off in the Tudor times of ye olde England and
in the tudor times quite a lot of women, but mainly old women,
were being prosecuted for being a witch or accused of being a
witch. Elinor's father imprisons her mother on a false
accusation of her being a witch. Later on Elinor gets put in
prison for the same accusation. 4 Years later Elinor and her
Mother need to escape and fast.
This book was full of adventures between the pair and romance
but best of all it was historical. Setting the scene in tudor
England was the best idea I have seen on the DBA long list
which is why I rate this book 8/10 for how the writer thought
about the book.
Ereza from Year 6, Hatchell Wood Primary School:
i didn't like this book it was very old fashioned and i stopped
reading it and i hadn't even got half way through.
Elliott from Year 8, Hall Cross School:
I think that Marie-Louise Jensen has really thorght of this
book. I loved this book, I couldn't put this book down.
Elliott Wight from Year 8, Hall Cross School:
I think that Marie-Louise Jensen has really thorght of this
book. I loved this book, I couldn't put this book down.
Alice from Year 6, Hayfield Lane Primary School:
I didt like this book because It is so boring the only things
what I like is the letters they where best pat of the book. But
my apion might be different to yours so you might think it was
good but I did't some people might agree with me that is why I
am saying all of this. :) :)
Laura from Year 6, Montagu School, Mexborough:
Main Characters: King, Eloner, Lord Stanton, Tom, Gregory, Sir
WAlter, Walter, Cromwell, Lady Elizibeth and Maria
A brief outline of story: Sir Walter locks his wife in a tower
for four years. There is a tournament at the castle and the
King is invited. Eloner is betrothed to someone that she hates.
Everyone is being her friend; but are they really?
Favourite Character: Lord Stanton
Lord Stanton is a very polite young gentleman. He is polite to
everyone. I feel sorry for him because Eloner didn't trust him
when she should have.
What I enjoyed/ not enjoyed about the book: The book kept me
interestded as there were so many things going on. Now, I don't
think I could tell someone the story briefly because to
understand you need to have read the book. I think this story
is a bit like a mystery.
Three Questions that people may be able to answer when they
have read the book:
Who does Eloner have to marry?
Is Maria a friend or enamy?
Can Eloner really trust Lord Stanton?
I aplogise for any spelling mistakes.
Charlotte from Year 7, Ridgewood School:
This book was an amazing look into the past with a romantic
story line twiksting it to being one of my favourite books
ever.I loved Ealanors battle to free her and her mother from
their fathers overpowerng grasp holding them in the wall of
their home. This is a book I would recommend to millions of
people.
