Vicki from Year 10, Don Valley School and Performing Arts College:

Cookie was a good book, which I really liked; the book is all
about a girl called Beauty. Beauty isn’t very popular at her
school as people pick on her for her name because they think
she is ugly. So she doesn’t particularly like school, she just
gets on with her work and does the best that she can.
At home though she has to be careful so as to not annoy her dad
who has a fearful temper. Her dad thinks she has loads of
friends at her school but it turns out that there is only one
person who Beauty actually likes, Rhona. After going to Rhona’s
birthday party her dad sorts out for Beauty to go to see
birthday bonanza with all the girls in her class. She can’t say
no to that no matter how much she wants to (none of the girls
in her class like her.) After getting a present off Rhona that
her dad doesn’t like she goes off to her party really happy,
she loved the present.
While all this is going on her dad is managing to scare Beauty
and her mum into doing whatever he wants, they daren’t say no
to him. When coming back from her birthday bash she finds that
her dad has done the worst that he can possibly do.
I really enjoyed this book, it was a quick read that took me
about a day to read but I loved the story. I found that it was
really sad in some places but when they find happiness at the
end, it is ever so sweet. This is totally my kind of story.
I’d say that the characters that interested me were Mike and
obviously Beauty and her mum, I think Mike is really kind and
helpful. He just makes all the people in the story all the more
likeable except for Beauty’s dad and some of the people from
Beauty’s school. I think that Beauty’s mum is really kind
especially when she tries to get everyone to call Beauty,
Cookie for her nickname instead of Ugly.
I have to say I would definitely recommend this book as there
wasn’t really anything that I disliked about it.
For me the most memorable part of the book was the ending I
thought, but I can’t tell you what happens at the end as it
would spoil it for you.
It needs to be read, this book is brilliant.

Alex from Year 8, Danum School Technology College:

This book was one of Jacqueline's slighty worse books. It was a
bit boring and dragged on a little. I read this when it first
came out a while ago and I found it okay however a
disappointment because I realized it was for young readers. It
wasn't difficult to read due to the fact of the age of the
audience it was aimed for.

Maisie from Year 7, Ridgewood School:

This book is one of my favourite books I have read, it is
exciting and funny. It is easy to get into but some of the
chapters are hard to understand but easy when you have read
them over and over again. My favourite character is Beauty
because she is a kind girl and when she got bullied by Sky and
her friends Emily and Arrabell she ignored them and she wished
Rhona was her best friend and at the end she moved to Rabbit
Cove.

Bonnnie from Year 7, Ridgewood School:

This book is the best book i have read of jaquline wilsion and
i think this book will be the best i have give it 9/10 because
its funny sometimes and it is about day to day life fot a
teenager and beacuse it is a long book to read.

Megan from Year 7, Ridgewood School:

I give this book a good 8 out of 10 because it is a good tale
that is all about teenage girls everyday life. Beauty is a girl
who gets bullied at school because girls call her an opposite
to her name, people call her ugly. Beauty's father is also a
bully and Beauty's pretty blond mum is bullied by him, he
treats her like a baby and wont let her have any pets and when
someone tells him something he doesn't like, he lashes out like
a violent child. Then one day beauty's mum is slapped by her
dad and beauty and her mum rum away to rabbit cove and meet
mike, an aspiring artist who owns a guest house, they work
there and live there, but then beauty's father finds out their
there...
My Favorite character in this book is Beautys so called
best friend Rowanna (I think) because she cares for beauty and
is friends with her and gives her reginatal red the bear />

This book is quite good, but it's not the best Jaqueline Wilson
book. The story line is not very exiting, but if you like
story's with happy endins you should read it.

Megan from Year 8, Danum School Technology College:

Cookie is a fantastic book in my opinion. Don't be put off by
the size of it, I couldn't put it down!
It is all about a girl called Beauty, she is a normal girl, but
gets picked on at school, no one calls her beauty, they all
call her ugly. At home things are not so good either, her dad
has an anger problem. All she has to do is say the wrong word
and he will be off on one.
Like a normal girl she dreams of having a rabbit. But her dad
is not so keen.
You will have to read it to find out more. I would recommend
this book to ages 9+.
It is a great book!

Cookie is a book about a girl who is expected to be perfect
when ever her dad is around. I don’t want to tell you
everything but let’s say that her dad leaves her and her and
her mum go off and they have a great time and start and new and
improved life. It is a very moving story and I enjoyed it a
lot.

Anonymous from Year 7, Rossington All Saints School:

This book was very intresting but I don't think that it is one
of Jacqueline's best books. Though I did feel sorry for poor
old Beuty, I didn't think it fair when she was bullied about
her name, and her poor old mum trying to make them call her
cookie insted. It wasn't a very long book but it was good! It
should be recommended for younger readers though!

Georgia-Mae from Year 6, Saltersgate Primary School:

I think this was a great story with surprising twists and
wonderful characters. My favourite character was Sam(and Lilly!)
I liked Sam because he was caring, understanding and genourous.
I also liked Lilly because she had the attitude of my rabbit. I
disliked the fact that it is rated a family book with the
things her Dad says and also what happened to Birthday her
rabbit was gruesome.I recommend this book because it keeps you
in suspense and you never want to stop reading!

This book was so good i love Jacqueline Wilson's work I have
all of her books and this defo number 3 . i think it is sad at
the beginning but a great ending I love tht her name is beauty

Paige from Year 7, Don Valley School and Performing Arts College:

I really liked this book because the story was based on Beauty
Cookson who was bullied at school and scared of her dads temper
and rages. I have experienced something like this and I know
how she feels having people that bully me and being scared of
my dads rages in fact I still am scared. So if you either like
Jaqueline Wilson books or have experienced something like me
you will want to definitely read this book.

Theresa from Year 6, St Peter's Catholic Primary School:

Cookie is about a girl called Beauty who gets teased because of
her name and looks. She only likes a girl called Rhona but she
is friends with the school bully so she doesn't excatley like
school very much even though she tries hard with her work. At
home is even worse since she has a controlling father who gets
very angry with Beauty and her mum. They do everything he says
just so they won't be hit by him.
This book is good to read but is still a sad story.

This book seemed to be quite boring at the beginng but then it
started to get really good at the end . I am not a big fan of
Jacqueline Wilson but Cookie was quite good. The name Beauty
was so nice and she thought it was horrid and wanted to change
it those girls were not very nice though.cRead this book you
will love it if you like Jacqueline Wilsdon. If you do not find
Jacqueline Wilson a tempting writer to read then please please
just try it. REMEMBER! if you do not like the book you are not
forced to read it all.

I gave this book an 8 because the story is like a real life
situation. Beauty Cookson totally chages her life around after

new house.Its great!!!!

Robyn from Year 7, Hall Cross School:

This book was really good but it was a bit long. The ending was
nothing like I expected, which was a good thing. I really
suggest you read this book but it's got a bit more of a plot
for older readers. (Year 6 and over maybe?)

Bethany from Year 6, Saltersgate Primary School:

Cookie is very god because of how it shows how family life can
be and how familys can split apart. Beauty in Cookie has to
surfer at school when she gets bulled and called ugly. Beauty
makes her first friend, the bullys best friend and tries to
change her nick name to cookie when her Mum finds out about her
getting bulled. Her and her Mum make cookies for everyone. Her
14th birthday comes up and her dad makes a fuss about this is
what splits the family apart. I didnt like the mean language in
the book. My favorite charater was beauty i like how she
allways felt happy and belived in her self.

Marks out of 10: 10

Kelsey from Year 6, Saltersgate Primary School:

Cookie is a good book by telling you about a real life problem
that people also have. Beauty Cookson is a ordinary girl. She
doesn't have many friends accept Sam an Lilly of a little
childs show.It is coming up to her birthday when every thing
goes wrong. Her father becomes very cross when Beauty asks for
a rabbit for her birthday. When Rhona comes, she gives her a
very special present. My favourite character was Rhona because
she was kind and she wanted Beauty to be her best friend
instead of a girl called Skye. The only thing I disliked about
this book was Jacqueline Wilson kept on putting 'and' and 'and'
in a list of names or items instead of putting commas. Read the
book to find out what happens next.

Marks out of 10: 9

Sasha from Year 7, Don Valley School and Performing Arts College:

I really liked this book, I just couldn't stop reading it. The
book is about a girl called Beauty whose Dad is really mean.
Her Mum is nice and they are happy when her Dad is at work.
She likes watching her favourite programme, Rabbit Hutch, about
Sam and Lily his rabbit, but can only watch it when her Dad is
out. I felt upset when the Dad was shouting because I don't
like people getting shouted at but I like the Mum being nice
and helpful. I liked this book because it has good characters
and has a cute picture inside it. Other people will love to
read this book. I give it five stars.

I loved this book!It has loads of detail and description and
even more crying in it.I love the charactor beauty and quite
like the name.I think she's amazing and feel sorry for her
because of skye and the other girls.I was so happy she made
friends with princess and think that making that club was a
brilliant idea.I would deffinatly read more of her books that
jacqueline brings out.I love her.

Marks out of 10: 9

Samantha from Year 11, Don Valley School and Performing Arts College:

Cookie is a typical Jacqueline Wilson book as always she writes
about everyday events that unfortunately hapopen. Beauty
Cookson lives with her mum and dad in a very big house which
you would think she loves 'every girls dream' but it would be
better if her dad wasn't such a bully. Her school life isn't
much better as she gets bullied by the 'popular' girls. The
only people that keep her going are Sam, Lily and her mum.
You'll learn more about thern when you read the book. I am a
fan of Jacqueline Wilson but this is not one of her best books.
I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone
that likes a good story. It is aimed at children of a younger
age so it was a quick and easy read.

This book is a awsome book. It's about a girl called Beauty who
has all the things a girl could ever wish for as her farther is

as Beauty and her mother realise.
Can Beauty and her dear mother ever escape her farthers grip

Beauty Cookson is a ordinary girl that the school bullies spoil
for her.Her life is very demanding because of her
father(Gerry). Then until one day some thing out of the blue
happened and Beauty and her mum's life suddenly changes. This
book shows difficulties some people have in life. One of my

This book can be so touching in some plces, yet funny in
others. I have every book of Jacquelines in my bedroom, and

shocking. I adore this book, 10/10 :)

instead she get called Ugly. At home her dad has an anger
problem, all she has to do is say one thing wrong and then

This book is about a girl called Beauty who has trouble with
bullies at school. Her mother is very, very pretty. Beauty's
father is, well can be, agressive. Beauty has always wanted a
rabbit, and for her birthday she gets one. A popular girl
called Sky bullies Beauty and her best friend sticks up for her
and is kind to her. Sky's best friend gives Beauty a rabbit,
and Beauty's father is not happy. Before everyone sets off to
the party he lets the rabbitt out of its cage. When Beauty
gets back her rabbit has had its head chewed off and after that
Beauty and her mother, who is wonderful at making cookies, run
away. They go to the seaside and you have to read it to find
out what happens next. It is a very good book and one that I
first read for pleasure. There is a happy ending and I like
that sometimes. I think it is one of Jacqueline Wilson's best
yet.

Cookie tells the story of a teenage girl called Beauty who is
anything but !!! As a result, Beauty is constantly bullied
everyday at school by Sky and her evil gang. At home things
don't get any better, Beauty and her Mother suffer frequent
verbal abuse from her domineering Father. There are various
shocking incidents throughout the story which make you think,
but in the end, like every good fairytale, Beauty and her mum
find happiness.
I found this book very interesting and thought provoking and
would recommend it to anyone.

would have to be mike because he is bubbly, kind and fun.
Jacqueline Wilson makes a wonderful description of mike and it
makes me smile. I disliked that the text about sam and lily
confused me a little from the way that she could talk to him
and he could answer her personally. It could be that she is
imagining it but i don't understand that bit. I would recommend

humor. I really enjoyed reading this i am going to read it

her and how hard life for her is.

Cookie is like a lot of us a normal girl who has a few problems
in life. I mean we all have a few problems but you just have
to get on with life and in this book it shows a girl whose Dad
thinks she should act like a princess but her Mum just wants
her to get on with life.

The main character is Beauty and her mum are trying to get
there live back on track but her dad is very aggressive to her
and as some people say he is a bit of a bully. I like the this
book because it is a girly book and I am very fond of girly
books. I also like Jacqueline Wilson books as she talks about
some peoples lives. My favourite character is beauty because
she can put up with her life and I would not be able to do what
she dose. she can also put up with her dad which I would not be
able to do. Out of it all the end bit spoiled it for me because
I thought it was a bit boring. Although I did not like the end
it was still good but if you like a thriller I would not
recommend it to you but all of it was quite good I would read
it again.

invites all of the girls from her class but they all hate her

Cookie is about a young girl, Beauty Cookson, who, like all of
Jacqueline Wilson's character's, has plenty of problems on her
back.
Problem number one is the bullies at school, who make fun of
her name, calling her "Ugly" Cookson.
Problem number two is her Dad. He tends to get mad or lose his
temper at the slightest little thing, often hitting or hurting
Beauty or her Mum, Dilly.
Beauty's all-time favourite animals are rabbits. She has toys
of them, watches them on TV, and she would give anything to
have one as a pet. Unfortunately, that's not likely to happen,
as her Dad has a strict no-pets policy.
In this book you find out all about Beauty, her friends, her
family and her love of rabbits.

This is a really good book, which is to be expected from such
an author as Jacqueline Wilson.

terrible birthday party her Dad tipped over the edge and Beauty

I liked how after being scared and giving her mum abuse about
not wanting to go on the kids TV show Watchbox. She actually
went on it and loved it (also the people thought she was a
natural at acting) and showed every watcher how to make her
mums special bunny cookies. Also things better she meets Sam
and Lily from her favourite TV show Sam and Lily in the rabbit
hunch and Sam offers her one of Lily's baby rabbits.
My favourite character was Beauty Cookson because she was
sweet, calm, brave and a nice friend to have. Even though she
was a bit babyish, she is friendly.
I didn't like how her dad treated Beauty and her mum. Even
though he had anger problems he should know by now how to solve
them or even see someone about it. I also hated how he treated
and what he did to one of Beauty's birthday prezzies in

because he is always criticising her and being hurtful. She and
her Mum have to protect each other from her Dad's outbursts.
These tend to happen if they break a rule or if Beauty asks for

Alice from Year 13, McAuley Catholic High School:

I'm sorry. I tried, I really did. But it is fundamentally
impossible to find anything complimentary to say about this
book. The 'star', Beauty, is possibly the single most
irritating heroine since Twilight's Bella Swan, with Wilson
failing to instil even one likeable quality in her. She
complains constantly about her looks, and although you have to
pity the girl for her overbearing and sometimes abusive dad,
you have to wonder how she managed to survive this long with
such a cardboard-cut-out, limp-rag personality. There also
appears to be an underlying mental health disorder, as Beauty
is perfectly fine with a television show 'talking' to her.

The 'plot' of the book is stretched out until it's paper-thin,
consisting of a party, a rather disturbing scene involving a
rabbit, and an escape to the beach where, predictably,
everything comes up smelling of roses. Also, what does Wilson
have against people with half-decent looks? It appears that in
every single one of her books, the rule is 'Pretty people must
be bullies'.

Speaking of Wilson's other books, product placement appears to
be in full flow as Tracy Beaker is yet again mentioned. I
suppose I should be grateful that the reference was only in
passing, but really? The author was so desperate to advertise
her own creations that she had to force it on an unsuspecting
reader?

The Doncaster Book Award is supposed to reflect the best of
children’s literature from the past year. If this is the
quality of today’s books, then I’m afraid we have a serious
problem. Unfortunately, Wilson has yet again managed to produce
300 pages of self-congratulatory, condescending, predictable
tripe with the message that as long as you run away and find
someone strong to take care of you, everything will be alright.
I can only hope it doesn’t win.

because the book is PINK doesn't mean that boys can't read it.
Cookie's real name is Beauty even though
she doesn't look it. Her dad is mean and nasty but her mum is
as sweet as sugar. Beauty gets her nickname (Cookie) when her
and her mum starts to make cookies. For Beauty's birthday she
gets a rabbit but her evil dad kills it. That's when Cookie's
mum takes action! Her and Cookie run away to a small seaside
town and they stariragain things go well. Her mum meets a new
man and they live there lives normal again.

Zaira from Year 8:

Cookie was a very interesting and heart warming book. It was
somewhat very realistic as how the parents act and how she gets
picked on at school. Wilson has a very interesting mind as she
writes about how girls will really feel and how they would
react to the situation. Beauty's mum was a very interesting
charecter and I was very fond of her charecter as she acted not
very mumsy at all. She is very close to Beauty and has a open
and wide imagination, as she listens to Beauty and 'Run' away
to rabbit cove. Her mum doesn't really mind her watching sam
and the rabbit hutch. Beauty's Dad was very aggresive and made
Beauty's life is very limited including the innocent birthday
partys and her clothes, he is a very wealthy man and offers
Beauty to buy a lot of things. She is just really fond of a
rabbits and asked for a small one, her dad went really angry,
if they break even one silly house rule such as suggesting a
pet. Rhona was a very good example as someone who is controlled
by their friends by telling them who to talk to and hang out
with. Skye is a stuck up rude girl who is the cause of the
tauntings to Beauty, her nickname in school is Ugly, she wants
her name and nickname to be Cookie so her mum and her bake
cookies in order to achieve that nickname. I think Cookie was a
very heart-warming novel and it was very touching, I love the
fact how Wilson creates her characters out of thin air she is
definitely my fav Author!

I can actually say that I like this book! It was written to
describe parents being hurtful to children. It is very
emotional and I think that it could do good. I like it when
Beauty makes more friends. I also like it because it describes
bullying. I don't like the fact that they call Beauty ugly. But
overall this book is very good and well written. I think that
the worst character in the book is Beauty's dad because he is
very mean to Beauty and her mum. The best character in the book
is Beauty's mum because she finds the will to leave but she
won't go back no matter what! I think that Beauty's mum did the
right thing. The worst bit was at the end... it has no proper
ending, I think that it should have been longer because we
don't know what happens to Beauty and her mum. Also the ending
was good because of what happens to Beauty. Overall I would
recommend this to any girl or boy age 10-15 as it is athat
area.

If you like books where the main character is desperately in
need of a boyfriend, a king-sized box of tissues and and
ENORMOUS box of anti-depressants-voila! Cookie is here!!
I usually love Jaqueline Wilson's books, but Cookie is
completely unrealistic and to be honest, a bit tiring.
All the main character, Beauty, does is moan about how
she's enviously rich and how she gets almost everything she's
ever wanted. And-the spoilt brat- she gets an AMAZING birthday
party without even asking. she moans about that too. I know her
father needs to go to anger management classes, but he doesn't
get THAT violent, so i don't know what all the fuss is about.
If you think of how some children are treated nowadays, she's
treated like royalty.
Seriously, i was screaming in my head 'What is wrong with
this chick?!'
I found Cookie really depressing and (i don't know wether
it's because I'm older) completely absurd in the story-line
department.
I wouldn't read Cookie again if you paid me half a million
quid, and wouldn't reccomend this book to a anybody.

Cookie is a book by Jacqueline Wilson about a girl named Beauty
Cookson who along with her mother has to battle against her
abusive father. We really enjoyed reading this book because it
is something that happens all the time that we really don't
know much about as children and this book isn't afraid to show
us that not every child's life is about rainbows and
princesses. The book is very emotional because it shows a
loving relationship between a mother and a daughter having to
deal with an unloving and uncaring father and husband. Our
favourite character is Beauty because she isn't afraid to stand
up for what she really believes in. I would recommend this book

Well.......... I am not sure whether I like this book or not.
Although Cookie's story line was ok I got bored towards the
middle of the book because it just seems to drone on and on
about how Cookie's dad is being horrible to her and how she
gets made fun of at school. I was quite looking forward to
reading this book but now I have read it I don't know why! I
think that I have gone off Jacqueline Wilson's books now
because they all seem to be about the same sort of thing. They
all seem to include something about a child being bullied or a
child's parents splitting up. I wish that she would write about
something different. Some people may be thinking that this is
not a book for boys but actually they might like it if they try
it.

If you haven't already read this book then I suggest that you
give it a go but if, when half way through the book, you get

I thought Cookie was a fantastic book, well I do love
Jacqueline Wilson's books.

This book was about a young girl called Beauty who was plump,
wore glasses and thought her hair was horrible. She got made
fun of at school, she was called ugly, so Beauty didn't have
any friends, plus there is the [problem of a dad who can be
extremely up-set by the slightest thing.

I didn't really know what to expect from this book but I really
loved most od it. My favourite character was Skye, she was the
typical self-obsessed pre-teen.

I do think Birthday the rabbit could have died a little
les...well.. gruesomely, run over ok, but with the head and
everything! I also think the end was a big let down, you never
found out what happened to Dad, what happened with Mum and Mike
or how Beauty got on with the new rabbit. As for the bullying
at the old school problem, she literally ran away from that!
