Zack from Year 7, Don Valley School and Performing Arts College:

Ruby Rogers is a very strange book and not in the good way. The
plot is very muddled up and is very annoying. The characters
are not as intresting as they could be. With a few more exiting
words and an improved plot this story would be more likeable. I
actually only read 2 thirds of this book as it is so boring. I
would never reccomend this book to anyone over the age of 4
years old.

Vicki from Year 10, Don Valley School and Performing Arts College:

Surprisingly after hearing off lots of people that they did not
like it I thought I would dislike it as well but I didn't. I
admit I didn't like the whole book but some parts of it were
all right.
In this book Ruby's friends Yasmin and Hannah decide that Ruby
is going to have a sleepover with a celt theme because they
have been learning about celts in class at school and that Ruby
is going to invite a whole host of friends, boys and girls.
Ruby knows that her mum doesn't like hosting sleepovers so she
worries that this is not going to go well. After persuading her
mum to let her have a sleepover even though she is only allowed
to invite 3 friends, Yasmin, Hannah and Lauren she has to keep
this a secret from all her other friends. Then she gets invited
to a barbeque on the same night and before she knows it she has
said she is going to that as well. What will Ruby do to get out
of this? Ruby wants to go to the barbeque and have her
sleepover without annoying her parents or falling out with any
of her friends but then when she finds out that her auntie is
in hospital because she has had a stroke her mum has to leave
and go visit her with Ruby's dad. Ruby ends up with a lot of
things on her mind.
This book is all right I suppose but in some parts it kind of
irritated me. She had all these problems and then by the end of
it it all seemed like she had been worrying over nothing. This
book was a seriously easy read. I read this book in like an
hour. It is not challenging at all. I enjoyed the fact that it
was fast paced though. I would recommend this book to people in
lower years than me as it was really easy.

Laura from Year 7, Don Valley School and Performing Arts College:

I thought this was a very interesting book about how a girl
deals with her life with a bossy friend and a sleepover that is
soon to be a disaster. It's about a young girl whose friend
wants a sleepover at her house. Ruby doesn't really want
everyone over but asks her Mum anyway if she will let her. My
favourite character was Ruby because she's fun and I love all
the stories about her. There was nothing I disliked about the
book, it was great like all the others and I'm sure people will
enjoy it.

Luke from Year 6, Saltersgate Primary School:

I want people to read it because it is short and easy.
I think people in primary school should read this book.
It is about a girl who is pressured by here friends to have a
sleepover, and then she has trouble sorting out a sleepover so
she tries to ask her friend and she has problems too, and also
with mum and dad gone everything starts to fall out off place.
My favourite charecter is Holly because she is always there for
Ruby.
What i disliked about the book is: It was much to short and
everything was sorted ot so quickly.
I liked it because:It was very funny.
I class it as a funny book although it was quite boring at
times.

Courtney from Year 8, Don Valley School and Performing Arts College:

This story is about a girl called Ruby who wants to have a
sleepover and her Mum doesn't know whether to let her or not.
Ruby wants one to impress her friends, but her Mum doesn't know
where they are all going to sleep or who Ruby is inviting. In
the end her Mum lets her have a sleepover. I enjoyed the book
because it is very funny, there was nothing I didn't like about
it. My favourite character was Ruby because she was such a
funny girl. THe most memorable part of the book was the
sleepover. It didn't take long to read, it was an easy read.
The front cover stands out and the blurb makes you want to read
it because it asks a lot of questions. I love the book and I
would definitely recommend it because it is very funny.

Tristan from Year 6, Saltersgate Primary School:

Ruby Roger Party pooper is a brilliant book on every day life.
I would reckomend this book to anybody you loves reading about
drama a bit of comedy and lots of mourals. the only bit i did
not like was when they fell out and the best part was when Ruby
managed to go to do the barbqe and the sleepover

Lucy from Year 6, Hatchell Wood Primary School:

I really recommend this book because it is about Ruby's
sleepover and everything goes wrong. It is a good book which is
aimed at children of about my age.

Megan from Year 8, Danum School Technology College:

I enjoyed this book very much because you just wanted to know
what mess Ruby got herself into next. I couldn't put this book
down, I read it all in one day! This book could be enjoyed more
by a younger reader. I would recommend it to ages 9-13 mainly,
but I am not saying anyone who is not within this age group
will not enjoy it. This book is a definite contender in my
opinion. I give this book 7 out of 10.

Abie from Year 8, Don Valley School and Performing Arts College:

I didnt really enjoy this book as it was a really easy read
and I like challenging books. This book is about Ruby Rodgers
and her friends. They all want a sleep over and they want Ruby
to have it. Ruby is worried in case her mum says no! But
suprisingly her mum says yes. On the week of her sleepover her
mums auntie falls ill and everyone is depressed. Her parents
leave to go visit her. Ruby is left alone with her older
brother who has fights with his girlfriend nearly evryday!! Her
brother says no to the sleepover but when he finishes with his
girlfriend he changes his mind. A real sleepover takes place in
a celtic style and they had lights, pizzas, masks everything.
Also in this book friends fall out and Ruby falls out with
Yasmin and in the end evryone makes up. I gave it a 7 because
it was not my cup of tea but some will really enjoy it. I would
reccomend it to primary school kids and girly girls.!!! A good
book!!!!!

brilliant and I don't think it's score could be worse than a
five!!!

Kaomi from Year 6, Montagu School, Mexborough:

I thought this book was amazing, in one part is made me laugh
out loud when everyone was reading silently at school. I gave
this book a nine because some chapters I did'nt enjoy as much
as the others, but it was still a really good book and I might
even buy the whole collection.

Marks out of 10: 9

Thomas from Year 6, Hatchell Wood Primary School:

Quite good! I expected it to be an extremely girly book but I
really enjoyed some of it.Although near the end it got fairly
boring I thought max was quite funny when he peed on people.I'd
like to say to boys that are dreading reading this book it's
not as overly girly as it looks (eventhough it gets a bit
boring).

Marks out of 10: 8

Rebekah from Year 7, Armthorpe School:

This book was quite enjoyable at first I thought that it would
be one of those little kiddie books for year 5 but suprisingly
it was awsome. Ruby Rogers is dreading her sleep-over and
wishes her demanding friend Yasmin never brought the whole
thing up. I don't want to tell the whole story as it would be
unfair but a really good book and a must read book!

Marks out of 10: 8

Jack from Year 9, Danum School Technology College:

This book, was the first comedy story I have picked up so far
on the longlist this year. Although I did find it quite funny,
I just don't think it is capable or deserving of winning. The
story is about a girl called Ruby, who stars as the main
character in the whole 10 books of the series. In this eventful
story, Ruby has been forced to arrange a sleepover party for
her mates to come and visit her home-as yet, Ruby has only been
to her other friends sleepovers. With strong persuasion from
her friends, she tries to get the sleepover organised, but it
turns out to cause loads of problems for her. They involve
lying to other close friends, attending everything she has
agreed to turn up to, and keeping family issues in mind,
involving a close relatives sudden illness. Can Ruby do the
impossible and get the sleepover on?! Read the book to find
out! Yes, I did enjoy this book, but compared to others on the
longlist, I really don't think it deserves to win, as it is
just a simple story, which doesn't seem all too interesting at
times, even pointless at some occasions. With over
exaggeration, funny twists, and the unexpected, I think many
younger readers may enjoy this book, but in my case, I really
would not find it fair for it to earn it's place on the DBA
shortlist, and cannot see it getting the award. Sorry!

Amy-Leigh from Year 7, Don Valley School and Performing Arts College:

This book is about how Ruby tries to get her Mum to let her
have a sleepover. When she finally gives in, Ruby tries to do
a sleeping plan as she wants her sleepover to be the best ever.
What I liked best is that the book is really funny. When Ruby
tries to plan her sleepover there is no room for everyone
because she wants it in her treehouse. My favourite character
is Ruby. I liked everying about this book. It is funny and I
would recommend it to everybody.

Marks out of 10: 10

Elinor from Year 8, Danum School Technology College:

This wasn't that good a book. I thought it was a bit babyish,
and it wasn't at all gripping or exciting.
It was about a girl called Ruby, whose friends have talked her
into hosting a sleepover. She doesn't want to, and all sorts of
things crop up, but she eventually manages it.

Amy from Year 6, Saltersgate Primary School:

It's a really good book about a girl named Ruby who is forced
into having a sleepover at her house. She struggles to organise
it. Her parents had gone to visit her Auntie Megan in hospital
and left her brother Joe in charge. Joe says she can't have the
sleepover. Ruby won't stop worrying about it and thinks of
canceling the sleepover.

Jordan from Year 6, Kingfisher Primary School:

The main story line to this book is: Ruby Rogers wants a
party...will her mum agree? My first impressions of this book
were brilliant, it made me feel happy and excited. It is an
hilarious book!

My favourite part of the book is when Ruby lies to her friends
about having a sleepover. I chose this part as my favourite
because I like how she finds it tricky to get out of a lie! I
like how Sue Limb (author) has described how Ruby is
feeling-this author is fantastic!

The worst part of the book is where Ruby's mum wont let her
have a sleepover, as the characters get upset and you feel like
you are in the book, upset with them!

Overall, I think this book is great and fantastic; a must read!

It's Ruby's turn to throw a sleepover. Oh no! She is dreading
it, but her bossy friend is forcing her.
Ruby loves sleepovers (not at her house) but her mum might
not let her.
She has to go to a friends' barbeque on the same day and her
aunts in hospital. It's all going wrong. She has to do it
though or what will her friends think. I like this book, but
has little action in it so I give it a 9/1o.

I think Ruby is very good at impressions and she is quite a
bubbly person. I think Sue Limb has done a good job on the back
where she has written Ruby Rogers and I am looking forward to
reading other books by Sue Limb. Also I think that Sue Limb has
captured the right character for this book.
Nice One Sue!

This book is about a girl called Ruby who at the start acts
like a monkey or a gangster when her mates Hannah and Yasmin
talk to her. She is very ignorant that is why I dislike this
book. Her friends ask her to have a sleepover at her house and
she isnt sure her mum would say yes. I rated this book 7 out
of 10 because she is ignorant when her friends are talking to
her but my favourite character is Ruby when she acts like a
monkey. I would reccomend this book to a yr 7.

I loved this book, it's the best of the competition.

Ruby (the main charactor) digs herself into a lot of problems.
First her friends persuade her into having a sleep-over. Then
on the same day her other friend Froggo invited her to a
barbecue and she say yes as well as having a sleep-over.
Will she make everyone happy?
Read to find out.

Scott from Year 9, McAuley Catholic High School:

Ruby Rogers: Party Pooper is a classic example of peer pressure
but maybe not as serious. It is not like forcing someone to
take drugs or smoking, but it still is an example. Ruby Rogers
is forced into having a sleep over even though she didn't plan
on holding any kind of party. Also her "Best Friend" basically
organised the main part of the sleep over, the theme.

But the thing that is really disturbing in this book is that
Ruby's relative has had a stroke and is in the hospital,
without Ruby thinking of her one bit.

Lydia from Year 6, Branton St Wilfrid's Primary School:

Well................the book was cool, but it wasn't for me I
must addmit. I was sort of funny when Jaz and Ruby were near
the gates and Ruby did a monkey and a gangster impression! Well
like i said i wasn't for me I more like action books like The
Twilight Saga, by Stephenie Meyer, WOW is Twilight good...Oh am
I rambleing on about Twilight, I have a TOD (twilight obssesion
dissorder) so back to ruby rodgers, i wasn't for me. Here's
some advice: if you like action don't read this 'cause it only
has a tennsy weensy bit of action in it! p.s. If you like
twilight you are awsome but if you don't you are still awsome
'cause I think everyone is awsome!!!!!!!!

This is an interesting book. I like it very much and i think
that it is an good choice to put on the short list and i
enjoyed it. My favourite character was Ruby because she was
very very silly sometimes and is a not a very good person to
trust.Overall i have give this book a 8. The reason is because
at some points it is a bit babyish.

Becky from Year 9, Danum School Technology College:

Ruby's friends force her to have a sleepover at her house. But,
she has to try and persuade her Mum to let her have it. And she
can't possibly find anywhere for them all to sleep. She also
feels bad, because not everyone can come. All she is trying to
do is make everyone happy, but she just messes things up.
Arguments rise between friends and family. I thought this book
was alright, but it could have had a more detailed ending.

Marks out of 10: 9

Paige from Year 7, Don Valley School and Performing Arts College:

I didn't really like this book because it was like a kiddy
story.
It was about a group of friends and one of them was called Ruby
and the girls want to sleep over at her house but she hasn't
asked her mum first but I really didn't like it, it was just a
story I didn't understand (didn't like).

Marks out of 10: 1

Abby from Year 7, Don Valley School and Performing Arts College:

I didn't really like this book. It was about a young girl,
(Ruby Rodgers), who is forced into having a sleepover by her
friends but it becomes awkward because of other things that are
happening.

Some parts were funny and I giggled a bit, but that was about
it really. None of the people in it were particularly my
favourite.

Too many things were happening at the same time, for example,
the sleepover, Froggos's barbeque, auntie being sick, parents
being away, Yasmin and Hannah's fight, Tiffany and Joe's fight
- too many things crammed into one short book. Plus it didn't
say if Auntie Megan lived. To say there were so many things in
it, it was too simple, everything in it just happened to work
out - it was a bit obvious.

I don't think this book should be on the shortlist really.

Ruby Rodgers: Party Pooper is a fun, silly, short read that was
quite enjoyable. Ruby is a girl at school who's about the same
age as me. Pressure is put on her by other girls at school to
have a sleepover at her house. But when things get in the way,
the only question is 'will she have this sleepover?' This book
is fun, but don't be put off with it looking a bit girly. THERE
ARE BOY CHARACTERS TOO!
