Paige from Year 7, Don Valley School and Performing Arts College:
This is a very good book which I was reading constantly. It is
a scary story with great adjectives, similies and metaphors.
The thing I liked best were the characters, especially Nick,
and his friend Katie because she tries to help him. There was
nothing I didn't like, it is a fantastic story which I would
recomend to people, especially people who like to predict the
end of stories.
Jake from Year 9, Danum School Technology College:
This book was really good, I really enjoyed it and could not
put the book down till I had finished it, it is definitely an
older readers book and it makes you think a lot. This is a
fictional book and it is the best 1 I have read so far. The
cover is quite appealing to horror readers and that is what
made me take a look at the book. I rated it 8/10 because it is
a fantastic book but it isn't really a book that might win the
award.
Alex from Year 6, Hatfield Manor Junior School:
I thought this book was really good and interesting because E-E
Richardson made some bits where it makes you think that i feel
sorry for that lad. but he had his funny bits in it as well but
i think this book is really good. but that is my opinion.
Robyn from Year 7, Hall Cross School:
I wouldn't recommend this book for children younger than me as
it has a bit of bad language in it but other than that it's
really good. Not a book to read with the lights off at night, I
must admit.
It starts off with Nick, the sixteen year old main character,
frantically searching for a birthday present for his step-mum,
Julie. He stubles across Bargains, the odd little shop down a
mysterious alleyway.
The shop sells orbs and when Nick makes his selection, he's
suprised when the shopkeeper asks for a peice of his artwork to
pay...
I'm not going to give away anymore secrets away, all I can say
is this book is really incredible. Written perfectly, you need
to read it!
Lucy from Year 6, Sunnyfields Primary School:
So far I'm only half way through this book, but I'm really
enjoying it. It's got quite a mystery feel to it, until he
finds out whats wrong with him, then it's a bit of a horror
kind of story. Because I'm not finished it yet, I would give
it a 6, but that may get higher when I've finished it!
Bethany from Year 6, Saltersgate Primary School:
The soul trade is about Nick looking for a birthday presant for
his step Mum while Nicks running out of time he finds a little
shop called Bargins. Nick finds himself in a room filled with
orbs. Nick thinks this is the best birthday presant for her but
not for him.Nick trades his art talent away for the orb. Nick
now is working for the shopkeeper to eran his talent back.
My favorite charater was katie.
i liked this charater beause of her atiude she was always calm
and saying that we will get through it.
I disliked the bad language.
I would recommend this book beause it shows that if someone
gives u an offer that ur not shore about you show think about
it first.
rachel from Year 6, Hatfield Manor Junior School:
It got very boaring and had a lot of swearing in it
Shannon from Year 8, Danum School Technology College:
This book was very good. It was really exciting and mysterious.
There was a very good climax that gets you feeling quite tense.
It really gets your heart racing quite fast because Nick
Spencer finds he has to make quite a few tough decisions
because he unfortunately gets tied into the evil, mysterious
and scary business dealings of Mr Grey. I can't really say much
more because it will give away the story but it is a great book
and quite easy to follow.
Jordan from Year 5, Owston Primary School:
So far this brilliant book (The Soul Trade) is amazing first
of all Nikes Mum and Dad have split up and so he is rushing
house to house and somtimes he does not know
which house he was meant to go to.One day he has to go out and
buy birthday present for his freind.
matthew from Year 6, Hatchell Wood Primary School:
The book was great. Apart from mild swear words which popped up
in the book sometimes.I thought it was diffrent but girld may
or might not like it because im a boy so they may have
different oppinions.I advise you to read it but the begining is
a bit boring.Carry on please it gets better throughout the
book.I rate it 9/10 because of the action in the middle.I
advise it for older readers as younger readers might not get
what the books about. When i got to the middle it was urgeing me
to turn the page. This was my first book so I can't say it was
my favorite book but keep watching for my reviews popping up.
If this is my favorite book at the end i will send another
review in. I am reading football academy at the moment because
i didn't want to choose cookie
hope you liked my review
Matthew from hatchell wood primary school
Megan from Year 8, Danum School Technology College:
In my opinion this book is quite good. It has a good start, you
just want to know what happens next. I would say this book is
for younger secondary school readers and older primary school
readers. I say this because you have to notice certain little
things that younger readers would not notice as easily. If you
like reading pick this book, it is so addicting once you start
to read!
jack from Year 7, Ridgewood School:
Athrilling page turner, never clichéd. This is one fairy story
that won't hold still. I realy enjoyed this book.
How much are you willing to pay?
Omar from Year 6, St Peter's Catholic Primary School:
There is a boy who is normal but is really good at sketching.
He goes into a shop called bargains wich he enters and the man
is really creapy he knew that the boy was good at sketching and
he knew he had a sketch book in his bag so he asked to see the
sketch book while the boy looking at the orbs and the man asked
to swap the boy thought he got a bargain but actually it was
the worst choice hes ever made.read this book its amazing!
Zack from Year 7, Don Valley School and Performing Arts College:
Soul Trade is a wicked book. That is one of the only ways I can
put it! This book should be shortlisted for sure, this book has
a unique plot and is different from all the other books I have
read on the long list. The story is about a boy called Nick is
searching for a present for his Step-Mum Julie, and he only has
20 minutes. He finds a shop named 'Bargains' and he wants a
mysterious orb. He is thrilled when the creepy Mr Gray says
that all he wants is a drawing, not money. But he does'nt
realize that Mr Gray has took away his drawing skills. The
question is 'Will He Get It Back'.
A truly terrific book!
stefan from Year 8, De Warenne Academy:
i did'nt really like it I expected much more suspence and the
begining was boring.
joshua vidler from Year 5, Bentley High Street Primary School:
I like the soul trade because it gives out good suspense.Nick
is my faveorite caracter because he walkes in to the store and
all the orbs just catch his atention
lewis from Year 7, Don Valley School and Performing Arts College:
This book is good for anyone looking for adventure and
mystery. There are some some bits can be boring but overall its
a brilliant book.
kim from Year 6, Bessacarr Primary School:
it is not good and if i was u i wdnt buy it
Isobel from Year 9, Danum School Technology College:
The question I found myself asking is 'WHY IS THIS TERRIBLE
BOOK ON DBA?!' and 'WHY WOULD PEOPLE ENJOY THIS BOOK!?'
I have many complaints about this book including:
Lack of Adjectives + Not knowing where the characters actually
are until they say 'we are here now at ......' it is the worst
book on the DBA hopefully NOT on the shortlist.
Elly from Year 6, Hatfield Manor Junior School:
I loved this book so much i wish i could read it again. The
best bit is the bit at the begining of the book where he goes
into the shop 'Bargins' and meets the grumpy, strange shop
keeper i would recomend it.
Bryn from Year 6, Hatfield Manor Junior School:
I thought this book was really good but it had quite a few bad
words in it. If you ignore these words its an enjoyable read. I
think any body who enjoys reading will like this book.
katie from Year 6, Hatfield Manor Junior School:
I think that soul trade is a good book and i would recomend it
to you and i would by it if i was you.
people say don't judge a book by its cover but this has a good
cover and a good story inside as this is one of the book you
can judge by its cover
i give it a 10/10
it has swearing in it but it's not that bad and most of the
words say he swore instaed of the actual words
dean from Year 6, Edenthorpe Hall Primary School:
it is good but a little bit boring
Katie from Year 6, Hatfield Manor Junior School:
I think this book was good in parts but then it got more boring
and i really didnt like it. My favourite character is Nick and
I think he is cute and attractive, he had a good personality he
is defintely my fave character.
I dont think this is a good book and I wouldnt recommend it to
anyone.
Elinor from Year 8, Danum School Technology College:
THIS BOOK IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *several exclamation
marks later* !!!!
The best one yet! It covers everything that I like in a book.
This book is about a teen called Nick, who is in a rush to buy
his stepmum a birthday present. He stumbles upon a small
backstreet shop called 'Bargains'. He finds the perfect
present, then becomes very happy when the shopkeeper decides he
wants one of Nick's sketches instead of money!
But soon, he realises that the shopkeeper hasn't just taken one
of his sketches. His artistic talent has completely
disappeared! In order to get it back he winds up doing a job
for the shopkeeper, Mr Grey. But it seems that he isn't likely
to get out of his deal at all!
The DBA books just get better and better the more I read of
them, but it will be a close call as to which one I vote for.
So far it's between The Soul Trade and Frozen in Time.
Maya from Year 5, Balby Street Primary School:
I think this book is really interesting and quite scary. Nick
is a normal character but when he goes into an old crooked
bookshop and buys an orb things turn scary.
bonnie from Year 7, Ridgewood School:
i did not really like this book i like books with more action
this book is about a boy who gose into a store and trades
something
marvelous Mr Grey from Year 13:
I will have your SOULS............world domination is my
goal!!!!
brad from Year 9, McAuley Catholic High School:
the soul trade is a very good book I would recommend it to
everyone it was not very interesting to start with but as you
read on it gets more interesting.
Thomas from Year 8, Ridgewood School:
I thought this book was really interesting and the way it has
been written is also. The description of Mr Grey and Bargins
was really spooky. I liked the way when the orbs are traded
with your item and it stoppes you from performing your skill
you've traded.
Lucy from Year 9, Thorne King Edward Primary School:
I really likethis bookandi have just bought it today and i
would not put it down untill id finshed it !!!!
Maggie from Year 10, McAuley Catholic High School:
The book overall was good and interesting, but it didn't keep
me occupied. It was a unique story line and I don't think I
would write it or do it this way. I would recommend it to
people who like it a little dark.
Shalissa from Year 8, Mexborough School:
After reading soul trade i was deeply emotional towards the
characters. It is written in first person from the view of a
teenage boy called Nick Spencer, he soon realises he has
forgotten his step mothers birthdahy present. so in due hast he
runs toward the shop only to find they are all closed apart
from one. He soon discovers that the shop only sells one thing
strange orbs that show moving images and change frequently then
a shop keeper pops up from nowhere and even though Nick had
nothing to pay with the shopkeeper insists he give him a piece
of his artwork as Nick is a very good artist but he soon
discovers that his deal is more than he bargained for and with
his art test soon approaching his does everything in his power
to get his skills back even by doing the dirty work for
Mr.Grey.
Overall i think that Soul Trade is avery good book for people
over 11 years of age it is very well written and keeps the
reader entertained by keeping the storyline simple.
Keeley from Year 8, Don Valley School and Performing Arts College:
This book is about a boy called Nick. He buys a glass orb form
a strange bargins shop from a creepy shop owner, but he dosn't
want money he wants to trade for Nick's art book. But the next
day Nick finds that he cant draw but could draw the day before.
He also finds that the orb changes its picture. It is a very
interesting book . I would recomend it for yr8s to read because
there is a lot of pages. I like Nick when he is very curious
about the shop owner
Becky from Year 9, Danum School Technology College:
The main character is a boy called Nick Spencer. He is
searching for a Birthday present for his Step-Mother, Julie,
when he comes accros a shop called Bargains. The shopkeeper,
Mr Gray, doesn't want Nick to pay him with money for an orb.
Instead, he takes Nick's sketch book. But soon, Nick starts
regret making the deal, because, his drawing skills have gone.
In order to get them back, Mr Gray sets him up for a job he
doesn't want to do. He has to collect debts from other of Mr
Gray's victims. When the assignments go too far, Nick starts to
question whether he will ever get his art skills back again. I
enjoyed this book because it was mysterious and has an
interesting plot.
