Caitlin from Year 8, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

This book is a bout a girl called Lorelli and her brother, Ovid
who have been trying to kill each other for as long as they
remember but the time comes for them to stick together and help
each other.

I like this book because it's got a lot of information in and
is very funny. I don't like the fact that some chapters are
really short.

i like this book a lot because its very addive and i couldn't
put it down. i rate this book 8/10 and its very well written by
the author, the only reason i deducted 2 points is BECAUSE IT
DEVEIATES FROM THE STORY AT TIMES

Abby from Year 7, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

I liked this book because it had a lot of adventures and some
bits that were really touching. My favourite character was
Lorelli and she was one of the twins. She was so happy when
she got a friend and thats the touching bit, when she finds out
something about him which I'm not telling but I loved it a lot.
I haven't checked yet but I hope Gareth has a lot more books.

Maisie from Year 8, Danum Academy:

I think this book is a very good book, it about two siblings
whose parents have both “mysteriously” been murdered. The
two siblings both (typically) hate each other and have been
attempting to murder each other for years, so much so that
it’s become a second nature to them. Ever since their parents
died, thornthwaite manor has been in darkness depression and
mourning. And the children are only allowed to play piano in a
low key.
The twins are in the midst of trying to kill each other (yet
again) when they notice that when one of them dies, the family
fortune goes to the other one, Lorelli does not think this is
fair and so she calls a lawyer who brings his son, unbeknown to
them while they are trying to kill each other someone else it
trying to kill them…

Amy from Year 7, Ridgewood School:

Ok, to start with this book contains too much death! It's about
the twins, Lorelli and Ovid, who have been trying to kill each
other since they were toddlers. In the end they find out some
shocking results on how thier parents died and who killed them.
This is a basic who-dunnit story for teenagers. I would
recommend it to lovers of gore!

James from Year 6, Estfeld Primary:

When I started reading this book I thought a lot more of it
would be about how they tried to kill each other. But to my
dissapointment it only told you about a few ways that they
tried killed each other, then the truce came on the 2nd page.
It was a stange story, like a "Diamond Brothers" novel (see
Antony Horowitz) only a lot less funny. It is a Mystery story
about loss and tragedy. Read it if you like mystery and if you
have read Lemony Snicket.

Coral from Year 8, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

The title is The Thornthwaite Inheretance, its about two twins
with the the desire to kill. Thier names are Lorelli and Ovid
thonthwaite. The book tells us about the miserable lives of the
twins, who have been trying to kill each other since they can
remember, but when the pair make a truce and the attempted
murder carries on, the only way for them to save themselves is
to work together and find out the truth. The only downside is I
find some of the chapters a bit short but other than that a
great read.

Abby from Year 8, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

Although I liked the book i would of thought it could have been
a bit more exiting. It was exciting and funny once you got into
it. THe writer could have added some pictures to go with the
story.

Bethany from Year 9, Rossington All Saints School:

To be honest at the start of the book, it was not that great
and I though it was rather boring in a way. But this book was
a real page turner and inspired me in many ways. It led you
down may different paths to different conclusions, which is th
kind of book I like to read. One night, I stayed up till nearly
midnght because I got so into the book. I would recommend this
book to anyone who likes a good story with a bit of mystery.

boring and kept going on a bit. But when I got a few pages in I

I was up until eleven because i wanted to read the last part of
the story. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a

Maleeha from Year 10, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

This book is about Lorreli and Ovelli. These character are
trying to kill eachother to get a their inheritance(thir will)
why they have to kill each other is, because they are twins and
want it themselves.

They haven't got parents. Their father got murderd and also
their mother who got killed whilst listning to a phone call
when there was a lightning bolt that struck their house. The
plot of the story is mainly trying to uncover the truth of what
happened to their parents death and what the real reason was
behind it.

I did enjoy reading this book because it has some suspicious
about whether you can trust Ovelli who Lorreli thinks is trying
to kill her again when they actually decided on a truce.

However it didin't have any tension on the story to make it
gripping but near the end the atmosphere is different. which
will have you wanting you to read on.

Sarah from Year 11, The Armthorpe Academy:

I don't know how else to put it: This book was awesome. It was
the first book I read on the DBA list, and I'm already
considering it as my favourite out of all the books I've read.

It's a great silly-but-serious mystery novel, and it's suitable
for most people who like the traditional mystery-style
storyline that builds up infinite questions during the story
and then answers all the questions in the last chapter. The two
twins are fantastic, funny characters, and their interesting
ways of attempting to annihilate each other are guaranteed a
hoot every once in a while.

I was also surprised at the way Jones has managed to include
musical clues in the whole mystery. I'm a bit of a music-addict
myself, so I was really impressed at how Jones managed to
include it as an interesting addition to the story. There's
also some interesting science and facts in there, not to
mention an exploding piano.

Overall, it's a great mystery book. If you had to read just one
book on the list, it could well be this one. The characters are
quirky, the storyline is interesting, and it's a great break if
you've been reading the serious novels for a while..

The thornthwaite inheritance was ok. I think it was a bit
boring though because it kept switching from past to present. I
used to get really captivated in the story but then it would
switch to a part in Lorelli and Ovid's past. Overall i give
this book a 7/10

This book is AWESOME! It is about where these two teenagers
(both brother and sister) kept trying to kill each other until
one day they call it a truce. But then a new lawyer moves in and
then there are traps still. Who is the murderer? My favourite
character is Lorelli and Ovid because they both play chess with
each other. I reccomend this book 10 out of 10

Megan from Year 8, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

This book is sort of a mystery book. It is about a boy named
Ovid and a girl named Lorelli and their parents both died of
wierd deaths. In their parents will, it said that they will
both get an equal share of the money at the age of 16, however
it also states that if one of them died before the age of 16
then the other child would get all the money. So at the
beginning of the book they are both trying to kill each other
to get the money but then they made a truce. They got their
parents lawyer Mr Farthing to come and put it down in paper but
he brought his son and after that strange things started
happening. Lorelli nearly drowned and Ovid nearly got ate by a
bear so they both decided that they would trust no-one but each
other and they started looking into their parents death and
.............
This book was amazing ,one of the best books I have ever read !

This book was absolutely AWESOME!!!
The Thornthwaite Inheritance is about Lorielli and Ovid
Thornthwaite, they are twins and for as long as they can
remember they have been trying to kill each other. The reason?
Well there is a large amount of money (the inheritance) that
when the twins are old enough will be split between them.
However if one twin should pass away before that time comes the
whole inheritance will be given to the remaining twin. See why
they try and kill each other now? One day at home Ovid decides
to make a truce, no twin shall try to kill the other twin.
Lorielli decides she wants it legally binding and in writing.
So surprisingly Ovid agrees although this means someone must
come and write down every object in the house. The man who does
come lives far away and is offered to stay at the house while
he does his job. But when he arrives the next day with his
things he has also brought along an unexpected visitor...
I love the character of Lorielli she’s really mysterious and
cool.
My favourite part is the end is really unexpected there is a
big twist and its epic.
This book takes a few days to read and has a few long words
but apart from that it's an easy enough read.
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a good read.

Ryan from Year 9, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

The book is about a brother and sister who are trying to kill
each other for the inheritance ofThornthwaite Manor. They live
in the manor house with the servants and that's were the twins
scheming goes on.
They don't live with their mum and dad because they are both
dead. The dad died due to the mother poisoning him due to her
greed, and the mother died due to a wrong number. That was
because on one stormy night the police inspector came to arrest
her but the phone rang and she answeerd it and the lightening
shot down the phone line and frazzled her brain. That was the
end of the parents.
I didnt like the part of the book that I have read so far
because I thought it was unrealistic that two twins would try
and kill each other in a time of mourning for their parents.

Some of the characters in the book were Ovid and Lorilli who
were the twins. There was also Mr Crutcher who was the servant,
teacher and also like a guardian for the two of them. There was
also Mr Farthing who was the family solicitor and Andy his son,
and there was also some more people that lived and worked a the
manor.

Elinor from Year 9, Danum Academy:

This book is not what I expected it to be. I thought that it
would be about Lorelli and Ovid's regular lives, maybe with
something slightly interesting happening towards the end. (Kind
of like an odd domestic fiction) But I was wrong. It turned out
to be a twisted whodunnit.

Lorelli and Ovid Thornthwaite are twins. Their parents are dead
and they have been trying to kill each other for as long as
they can remember. One day Ovid offers Lorelli a truce. Lorelli
is suspicious, so she invites a lawyer to make a contract which
would ensure the end of their rivalry. That's when strange
things begin to happen...

Although it's not what I expected, this book is very good,
despite my dislike of mysteries. The plot is intriguing and The
Thornthwaite Inheritance is excellently written overall.

I really like Thornthwaite Inheritance. It's all about Lorreli
and Ovid, twins who are after each other's blood. They decide
at the beginning of the book to hold a truce so they can find
out the truth about their parents deaths. The plot unfolds at
the end of the book, with about twenty different confessions. I
recommend this book especially to people with annoying brothers
and sisters who are always getting on their nerves!

This book is absoloutly amazing, i have never read a book that
has made me laugh. I can't belive that both of their parents
have died. I really like the bit where the vicar told Lorelli
that she would grow up just like her parents. The picture on
the front cover it looks like they are teenages who where just
messing around but they are seriously trying to KILL each
other.

When I first read this book, I wasn't really sure about it, but
after reading the first chapter i was hooked!

It sounds funny, because they are brother and sister, who both
try and kill each other in every chapter! Each time, there is a
different plot.

This book is very wacky amd mind moving, which makes me want to
find out about the other plots they do to each other!

The chapters are so short - it is easy to read.

It is like an adventure and mystery story in one. I am looking
forward to seeing who wins or if they will learn to like each
other finally.

Anna from Year 7, Ridgewood School:

I thought that this book was intresting. It is a very peculiar
plot and you dont usally find a book that is purely based on
murder. On every chapter there is something to do with murder.
This is definetly a murder mystery story. I would tell you the
basic story but it is extremely complicated. Also it would
spoil it if you have not read it yet.

The Thornthwaite inheritance is a book that is impossible to
read without laughing.Though a combination of comedy and
mystery makes the book extremely gripping.

Loreeli and Ovid Thronthwaite are twins, the first twins in a
line of Thornthwaites,as well as Lorelli being the first girl
to be born into the fgamily. With no parents they are brought up
by the household staff. At about seven years old they realise
that if one kills the other, they will get all the things left
in their parents will. Now at the age of 13 they agree to stop
attempting to kill each other and agree on a new condition on
the will:if one sibling kills the other sibling then the one
who killed the other forefits their part of the will.

A lawyer, Mr Farthing comes to write up the new will and brings
his son, Adam Farthing. Then the attempts to kill each other
ignite again; though each sibling denies starting it
first.Could the newcomers be the cause?

If you want to find out, read the book.

AMAZING, this has to be the best book so far! They take a
love-hate relationship of typical kids, and turn it into a
storyline! They take it to the extrereme, by trying to kill
each other. I like mr crucher best as there is more to him then
meets the eye, but you wouldnt think so!this book is about 2
twins that, like some teenagers, want to kill each other! But
they have to finnally have to work together, to work out who
else is trying to kill them both.....

I love this book. I think it should definitely win. It's about
two twins who always play pranks on each other. Ones that would

definitely going to read more of his books.

This amazing book begins with the solemn household entangled in
mystery, lies and murder but will the plot unravel or does the
string of evil that envelopes the mansion of Thornthwaite get
thicker? Well no matter what, it's worth finding out. This
story of two unfortunate twins takes them away from their chess
game and close to the truth of why the orphaned children need
to be careful with who they trust. Their adventure leads them
to feel more betrayed and even more murderous than ever as
they're attempts to harm each other 'supposedly' are ended by a
new truce but will they actually survive to find the truth or
will their dangerous lives get tougher than ever before?
I gave this spectacular book a ten out of ten.

I am getting to the end of this book now and it is AMAZING! I
can't believe that Mrs Bagshaw killed Lorelli and Ovid's dad!
Also Nurse Griddle is Hazel's mum! I didn't think for a minute
that Mr. Crutcher would aim a shotgun at anybody, never mind
Hazel. I feel sorry for Lorelli and Ovid because they have such
an awful life. Lorelli always dreamed of living a normal life
and I want to know if she ever does. I can't wait to see what
happenes at the end. So far my favourite character is Lorelli
because she is very cunning and smart. On the front cover it
