Abby from Year 8, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

Poison Pen is about crimes and murders when famous authors come
for a book festival. The main characters are Poppy and Graham
who are little crime solvers. It is set in a town hall and a
school mostly. I think the genre of this book is a
detective/murder book. The opening draws you in because it
starts at the end so you dont know what is happening yet.
Poison Pen is about famous authors going to a festival, getting
threat notes, injured or nearly getting hurt. Also some people
get murdered so its about Poppy and graham solving the mystery.
The only thing I found disapointing is that at some places I
got all the names mixed up. I would reccomend this book to
anyone who isnt put off by murder, also to both boys and girls.

samantha from Year 7, Danum Academy:

I think this book was boring. I do not want to read it again as
i nearly fell asleep reading it! The charecters were basic,
there was no imagination in this book!

Megan from Year 6, Conisbrough Morley Place Junior School:

WOW! i am stuck for many words, But what i will say is that
poison pen is a brilliant book and i would recomend it to
readers who like detective/murder type books.

When two children poppy and graham notice a strange man coming
into the good reads festival they get suspicious .
When numerous authors get death threats in their welcome packs
thats when they start their detective work.
This is a very intreguing book i just could not put it down it
made me want to go on to the next page all the time and the
last couple of sentences in this book were lovely but if you
wish to find out more ..........then you need to read it
yourself .
I know you will enjoy it for sure.
Poison pen will always be my favourite book that i've read so
far.
And yes it is suprising how much you can learn from
books!!!!!!!!!!!

Maddie from Year 8, Ridgewood School:

This book is really good, and I would recommend it to anyone
who enjoys suspense and cliffhangers. It is a murder mystery
about Poppy and Graham, two curious children who get wound up
in a crime. The way it is written makes you believe almost
everything Poppy says, until something jumps out and
contradicts her ideas. There are so many murders, you could say
it's to die for!

I love posin pen because it tells you about the life of an
author but the hazards of being one too.

suspect.............

kelsey from Year 9, Danum Academy:

This book was good enough to read, but i wouldn't exactly say
that it was my cup of tea.
I did enjoy the fact that it was based around the shortlisted
DBA, because i could relate to that as i am a member myself, it
was quite good near the ending, which is another thing that i
like.

Paula from Year 6, Doncaster Road Junior School, Mexborough:

Irealy enjoyed this book, it is not my best one but i would
like to read it again.

Nicole from Year 7, Ridgewood School:

This book is fantastic. Two pupils, Poppy and Grayham, love
spending time in the library. Not to read though!! To get out
of the cold/heat. One morning when the head announces famous
authors are coming to school Poppy and Grayham get to meet them
but disaster strikes. Murders and injurys take place and...??
Read the rest of poisen pen- I am sure you will LOVE it. I know
I did.

9/10- Slight reduction of points because there is so many names
to take in, that you can sometimes get them confused.Thoroughly
enjoyable though. I recommend this book for people who love
gripping stories. Again, I read this book in one night.

Cordie from Year 6, Montagu Academy:

Poison Pen is an exceptional book. It draws you into each and
every single page making it impossible to put down. It is
amazing, fantastic, brilliant, exciting, exhilerating story.

It is a very interesting book with lots and twists and turns in
it. It drops little hints all the way through the book. It
turns out that someone you don't expect to murder someone does.
Poppy and Graham are the main characters in this amazing book.
They volunteer to be helpers at a book festival and it turns
out it doesn't go according to plan. This has strange
happenings all the way through and is topped off with two
murders. You also find out what a school librarian can do at
the end. Words have a lot of meaning in this story and they
can certainly be dangerous.

Marks out of 10: 10

coral from Year 6, Montagu Academy:

poison pen is a good book it keeps you interested by strange
things happening in the story. i like the main character poppy
fields because she was very creative with her ideas and she is
a really good detective.

Chloe - marie from Year 7, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

I really liked reading this Poison Pen book because it is
really interesting and my best sentece out of the book is,
there was a pause and the reader's eyes narrowed a fraction. I
chose this sentence because I thought it was really
inetresting. The main characterwas Graham and Graham is a
really exciting character because he takes part in every thing.
I also think this book is set in a library because it mentions
the libary all the time so thats where I think it is set.
I really enjoyed ready it and there were some right interesting
parts so those people that haven't read this book I think you
would like reading it .

poison pen is the book filled with mystery. it makes me feel
like i am inside the book. you get little clues along the way.
they all get horrible notes in these welcome packs and then
things start to happen the the authors find out what will
happen next...

I really enjoyed the book it gave me a shiver down my spine.
there is a mystery man and he is trying to kill the authors in
book day.

Rebecca from Year 6, St Albans Catholic Primary School:

This book is wonderful with a hint of bad.

I found it really interesting and unpredictable ( I was even
hooked after 10 pages) and it is a really good read.
But my problem was that there was too much going on to
understand the plot properly and I got confused a few times.
Plus it is too short and I read it in under an hour and a half.
But there is a few more books so I will read them and maybe
I'll be satisfied.

I would recommend it to: Pretty much everyone.

9/10

Marks out of 10: 9

Sarah from Year 7, Rossington All Saints School:

This is a book about some weird goings on at the local book
week first an author is booted in the head with a football then
a strange man confronts him. What's going on? But no one new it
would get this serious. The weird man gets murdered in place of
the writer of the best vampire book ever.
Who did this? and most of all why?

This is a great book and if you haven't read it then you
haven't lived so get out and read it. If you want more of this
stuff then the first book of the series is 'Mondays are murder'
by Tanya Landman and if I could I'd give it 10,000 out of 10 I
loved it

Marks out of 10: 10

Eleanor from Year 7, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

This book is great! To say it's the last in the seriesl and I
should have read all the other books first, in order, it was
'dead' brilliant! Usually, when I watch or read anything to do
with crime and murder, I can solve whose the culprit in a flash
but Tanya Landman made sure I can't solve it this time! The
only reason it's been marked down a point is that it drags on a
bit about things that are'nt that important so I got a bit let
down by it. I managed to read it in a day and thought it was
'dead' ace! I kept reading it millions of times every time I
put it down!!!!!!! I'm sooooo glad it got shortlisted. It
deseves to win the award but it's up against some rough
competition so GOOD LOOK POISON PEN!!!

Marks out of 10: 8

Charlotte from Year 5, Saltersgate Junior School:

WOW!!! I am speechless this book is perfect for murder/mystery
lovers!

It is all about two children detectives, poppy and Graham, who
are invited to the book festival along with famous authors when
suddenly they all seemed to get hurt, then a cunning author gets
murded and then an author gets murded too. Then Poppy and Graham
almost get murded!!!

The Poison Pen by Tanya Landman.

When a mysterious man is found dead outside a publishing firm,
and a school book fayre goes extremly wrong, it's up to Poppy
and Graham to solve the mystery(with a liitle bit of help) and
find out who, what and why exactly!

A gripping read with a blurb that does not pay credit to this
outstanding read. Read it, just read it!

Abby S from Year 9, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

Poison Pen is a book about a curious young girl called Poppy
Fields and her slightly less adventurous friend Graham. This is
book seven in a series of murder mysteries. In this book
appropriately named and very bossy Viola Boulder is organising
the Good Reads Festival. The Good Reads Festival involves lots
of authors visiting the town hall to do workshops and talks.
Just after the first of the authors have arrived, they find
death threats in their welcome packs. Soon Poppy realises that
whoever did this is planning much more than just threats. The
unfortunate incidents are all related to the book that the
author wrote. For example one man who wrote a book about pigs
was chased and bruised by a stampede of pigs. Then the sick
jokes get a lot more serious…
This book was really good! It was a twist on a classic murder
mystery! I love the fact that what happens to the authors is
related to the book they wrote. The ending is really
surprising. I didn’t suspect it at all! However I normally go
crazy for murder mysteries (my favourite book genre), I
didn’t with this book. Don’t ask why but it was still
really good.
I recommend this book to boys and girls of aged 8+.
Brilliant.

Ellie-mai from Year 6, Montagu Academy:

This is a faboulous book because it's so mysterious (when the
man came in with his breif case and sneaked around the room). I
really liked this part Graham was grumpy- he'd have preferred
to spend the day in front of his computer.I think any-one how
really like mystery stories and crime I think they wil LOVE
this book!I certainly didn't like the ending because she could
of made it a little more better.I hope I get to read all the
other books that tanya landman has writen. When I looked at the
front of the book and it said:
beginning,
middle...
sticky end!
It made me really want to find out more!!!
I loved this book!!
I hope I win

i am reveiwing Poison Pen as i feel that it is a moving,
shocking and cool book. it is about a kid who wants to be a
writer. he walks in the library one day when the librarian was
talking, and over heard the librarian talking about an event
where she is taking some people to see some authors. so
therefore the boy goes but 3 of the writers get stabbed with a
poisen pen. sadly, i am not going to tell you more about this
thrilling book as i would reccomend this thrilling story to
anyone and everyone. the reason i gave it a 9 and not a 10, is
because i found it hard to follow, so i would also reccomend
that the person who reads it next, would read it in chapters
instead of half way through!

I loved the suspense and mystery this book uses, it sets the
scene, there,s a murder that happens immedeatly, authors are
getting murderd or almostv killed left, right and centre. You
never know who is next, a paticular highlight in this book is
the really shocking plot twist that make your jaw drop with
shock. This is a great murder mystery for all of you people who

Not really very interesting to start with and the childishness
in the book is too much at the start. This book definitely
prospers throughout the book and the ending is very clever. One
you would never suspect and really does fit.

Overall, this was an enjoyable book. The problem was, it wasn't
really a page turner. It might be because it is aimed at
younger readers, but it wasn't very exciting. i didn't feel the
build up of a tension and it lacked something.
Despite this, i thought that the ending was very clever and i
enjoyed the last few pages.

The main characters out of Poisen pen are Poppy Field and
Graham. They are known as crime solvers. It is about crimes and
murders. Poppy and Graham like to stay in the library so when
they got to help out in the literary festival they got excited.
The authors that came into the festival were getting threats. I
really liked the book, i couldn't put it down. I read the whole
book in about 5 hours. I didn't really like the fact that it
keeps on going on about things that don't really matter. I like
how the things that happened to the authors were related to the
books they wrote. The ending is really shocking, I didn't
suspect it at all.

Poisen pen is bout a pen that goes round killing people if they
use it. I find this ook to be a horror or thriller is sends a
really big shiver down your spine. My favourate character or
object in this book is the pen because it is mean and i like
reading about killing. I loved everything about this book. I
would recomend this book to a friend because my friends like
horror and thriller.

For most of the book poison pen I enjoyed reading but in some
parts the story got boring instead of being exiting all the
way through. Because of this I couldn’t read the book all at
once and I didn’t feel I wanted to continue reading. However
some parts of the story were intriguing and persuaded me to
read on from the gripping story line.
The main story line involves famous authors reciving death
threats at book festivals so the two main characters poppy and
graham have to investigate and try to solve the mystery ist
very interesting if you are into murder and mystery and I would
recommend it to anyone who likes this subject as this wasn’t
my exact favourite johnre.
