This book is slightly confusing if you have read cirque du
freak. This book, otherwise is thrilling! Read me! Read me! The
book kept shouting at me! I found this book thrilling as the
lay out created a more intense atmosphere and its really
spooky. I could read this book again and again, it kept drawing
me in! I want this book to win as every kid no matter what age
should read it!

I thought this book had a great atmosphere and draws you in
right at the start with Evil Traz and his murderous rampage! I
thought this book was great and kept you reading right the way
through, learning about vampires and their rituals. I thought
this book was good and would reccomend it.

Jessica from Year 6, Owston Park Primary School:

I loved this book right from the first page and I think that
everyone else would love as much as I did. It all starts when
Traz (a cruel man) murders Larten's cousin and in return Larten
kills his cousin's murderer and is forced to run away. He ends
up in a graveyard where he meets Seba Nile who is actually a
character many people know about... a vampire! Seba then leaves
him at the Cirque De Freak while he goes on his long trek to
vampire mountain. Larten then meets a character called Wester
who is a lot younger that Larten but have quite a long in
commom. Then together they enter the world of the unknown
guided by their new master... Seba!

Charlotte from Year 9, Ridgewood School:

Birth of a Killer is the phenomenal beginning to the Larten
Crepsley Saga that helps you discover more about the amazing
vampire who teaches young Darren Shan everything he knows.
During the novel you discover the secrets behind Lartens crazy
orange hair, who turned him and how his life as a vampire
truly begins. Darren Shan is my favourite author and I truly
love his new and enthralling page turning novel that helps you
explore his fantasticly creative world of fantasy as Larten
himself discovers the true meanings of being a creature of the
night.
This book well and truly deserves a 10 out of 10.

Clayton from Year 10, Ridgewood School:

A little disappotinted with the way the book is, but the story
line is perfect for the second book which I intend to read
soon. the story is imaginative and explains a little for the
now vampire, Larten Crepsley. A stunning start had happened,
with a average to above average middle section, the last 30-50
pages seem to drift slightly from the main line and sadly ended
abruptly. Perfect! Oh well, I guess it is a way to make money
for the author and publisher...

I was verry dissapointed by birth of a killer because I did not
get the point of the story. I thought the first part of the
story was good but then it started to drag for too long.
I rated this book 4 out of 10 because the book didnt really
intrest me.

The reason i really enjoyed this book was it it a masterfully
written story ;but i was slightly disappointed by the ending
when the suspense just faded away. The only mistake other than
the ending was the part where larten joins the circus for a a
while, it seemed to drag on a bit.Near the begining of the
story though itn builds up suspense and it... EXPLODES WITH
ACTION! and darren shan keeps you on the edge of your seat
until anothe BANG of action and the procces continues like this
in uniqe ways and drags on again. For this reason i really had
just keep reading and the orders to do so just kept in my mind,
seba is also my favourite character because of his inhuman
powers beyond imagination.Personally, i never really liked
wester though, he just seemed to be a copy of larten
crepsley. For all these reasons i rate this book 9/10.Great job
darren shan please me again with another book.

Lauren from Year 9, Hall Cross Academy:

I adored this book! As a huge fan of horror anyway it is
probably one of my favourites. The story starts of slow but
soon picks up. I definitely recommend this for readers who have
read the saga of Darren Shan as the book picks up the story of
one of the saga's characters Larten Crepsley! Revealing his
past and some substantial events that made Larten realise who
he is and making him realises what he must do to survive. We
also meet some familiar faces that will be recognised from the
first saga. The book reveals how friendships were formed and
sides of the chracters that may have been hidden! Including Mr
Tall, Seba Nile and even a small appearance from Mr Desmond
Tiny! With some gory scenes including a murder! We also find
out where Larten's second name Vur Horston comes from! Some
other secrets are revealed to...You'll have to read to find
out!

Callum from Year 8, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

This was an ok book from what I did read but it was extremly
hard to get in to. I stopped reading at about page 160. The
bokk is about Larten Crepsley (the vampire in the original
Darren Shan vampire novel Cirque du Freak) and how he became a
vampire. I stopped reading the book because nothing happened
for a while, only at page 100 did Larten Crepsley meet his
vampire mentor and it is only a 252 page book and it took till
about page 130 for Larten to become a vampire. I am not saying
it is a bad book it just wasnt my type of book other people
might like it but things happened way too slow.

Rebecca from Year 6, St Albans Catholic Primary School:

I really loved this book because it was really descriptive and
you could put yourself in Larten's shoes a little bit.
My fave part was when Larten was at the factory ( for the last
time) and the fights started. It was really interesting.

Abby from Year 8, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

Birth of a Killer is about vampires, it is a supernatural book.
The opening of this tale is very interesting as it mentions
Larten by the end of the day becoming a killer. The book is
about Larten Crepsley becoming a vampire & also a killer even
though he starts the story as a poor child who works for a
horrible boss. Larten meets a vampire called Seba Nile &
becomes his assistant & he trains with Seba till he is ready to
be blooded, the book is about his journeys with Seba. This book
is amazing I love it!

When terrible events force young Larten Crepsley to flee his
home he finds himself alone in the world. This book is the best
ive ever read because its not scary (for me) theres no gory
bits in it even when**** gets murdered its all right. This book
deserves a 10 out of 10 because its every thing i want in a
book. I wish i read it before we voted.

This book is about a mean boy called Traz and he kills his
brother's best friend by drounding him. I found this book
confusing. My favourate character is Traz because he has never
being found out. The most horrible part is the killing eww.
