Rowan from Year 5, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

I struggled to like this book as there isn't much of a story,
so I would recommend it to people who don't read much. My
favourite part of the book was when Tom accidentally calls Miss
Worthington by the wrong name.

Daisey from Year 8, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

I liked this book very much, I could not put it down. It was
fun and exciting. My favourite character was Tom because when
he thought everything was amazing things went wrong, but they
always turn out great.
My conclusion is that it is an easy read and I would recommend
it to all ages.

Hollie from Year 6, Saltersgate Junior School:

Everything`s Amazing (Sort Of) is a really good and funny book.
I personally liked the bit when Tom called Mrs Worthington ...
Mrs Worthingtash! I read this book with my reading group and I
wanted to read more, as soon as I saw the front cover. This
book also makes you add expression to your voice when you are
reading it aloud and in your head. I would recommend this book
to children aged 7+ as it is easy to read.

Adam from Year 6, Saltersgate Junior School:

I loved the book. I could just not put it down! You do not have
to be a good reader to read it. It uses a lot of onomatopoeia
and is easy to read.

This is a comedy book and I would reccomend this book to
everyone

Abby from Year 9, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

Tom Gates narrates this story; it's in first person and this is
an effective narrative voice as you know how Tom, the main
character, is feeling. This book is hard to put into a category
as nothing exciting really happened, the only category I can
think of is boring. Everything's Amazing Sort Of is set mostly
at Tom's house and school, but these settings don't really add
to the story. There wasn't much of a plot to this book it was
just about Tom's daily life and then his birthday, which isn't
too interesting. So, of course, I didn't like the plot. The
main character was Tom, a boy of about 10, who was pretty
normal. The story, even though it looks big, wasn't long enough
for me to form opinions on the characters. I didn't like the
book and would not recommend it to anyone. In my opinion it was
a failed attempt at a series like the 'A Diary of a Wimpy Kid'
books.

This is a really great and funny book. I could not put it
down!!!! It has a lot of humour. My favourite part is when Tom
called Mrs Worthington , Mrs Worthingtash. This book is
suitable for children age 7+. My reading group actually looked
at this book and thought we could actually do something similar
ourselves!

I loved this book and I rate it 9 out of 10.

In this book there are 404 pages of funny jokes and humour.
This book made me feel drawn away to a new place. The book is
very easy to get drawn into. The main character is Tom Gates.
Tom is a normal school boy, who goes to a place called
dino village for his birthday party. When he and his friends
are eating dinner then one of his friends gives him a box. So
tom opens it then……… grasshoppers jump out at him.
It was not very challenging to read, the language was easy
to understand.
I would recommend the book to anyone who loves fun and
exciting fiction.

This book was really exciting and funny I would really like to
read a book like this again. I gave this book nine out of ten
because I really liked the illustrations and the whole story,
its just the words theres hardly any but since the book has
four hundred and seven pages i think that makes up for the
amount of words in this book.

I think there should be a lot more books like this as it just
was so funny and it just pulled me through thew hole thing i
just kept wanting to read on and on and on.

I think that the person who wrote this book is pretty amazing
and obviously funny.

This Book made me feel good, it was easy to understand even
some children that are 5+ could read it!
The main characters in this book are Tom Gates and his best
friend Derek.
At first he enters Derek’s dog rooster into a dog show. After
that, he goes to Dino Village to have a party. To finish the
book off he has a fantastic ending!
This book is set at school, at home , at Dino Village and also
at a dog show.
The style of the book is a diary that isn’t that challenging
at all.
I would recommend that children at the age of 5+ should read
this book because it is entertaining and is nice and easy to
read.
I haven’t read other books by this author but I’d like to
because as I have said this book is really entertaining.

Sarah from Year 13, The Armthorpe Academy:

I started reading this book with great anticipation; it's not
very often you find a book where so much care has gone into
just making the pages look so great. Despite its thickness, you
can get through this book in a few hours even if you take your
time.

I have to say, I really loved this book. It's funny, the
drawings are somehow cute, and it's got a great, haphazard flow
to it. It's not to everyone's taste but reading it is genuinely
good fun. You're compelled to finish it just because the
pictures are so darn pretty you don't wanna miss them!

Plotwise, don't even think about trying to understand or
summarize it. There's no definite storyline, the whole book is
just a quirky recount of the life of Tom Gates. Everything just
happens randomly, and you finish the book the same way you
finish most of your dreams: Waking up and thinking 'Eeer.. What
just happened?! That's the last time I eat cheese before
bedtime.' (I'm not sure if the cheese scenario applies to
books, though) It's crazy. But then again, when does the life
of a schoolkid ever have a normal flow?

Overall, I'd really recommend this book, if anything just to
appreciate the effort that's been put into making it look so
pretty. It doesn't match the Wimpy Kid series, but it's a
seriously amusing alternative at the very least!

This book is really funny - it's all about a boy call Tom and
he has this thing about Tom Gates everything is amazing. It
all starts when he is in his class and there is this teacher
Mrs Worthington but she has a little hair above her mouth and
her
nickname is mrs Worthing tash and when the teacher is speaking
to him and he says yes Mrs Worhingtash and the teacher is
really mad with Tom .
I love this book, I gave it a 9 because sometimes I got
confused when the writing went around - I didn't know if it was
the end or middle. I recommend this book to funny children who
know how to laught because this book is funny. And creative
with its words and pictures.

i really liked this book it was very funny and and made me
laugh many times.. The key point about the book which I found
rather discouraging to encourage others to read. Was the way
the author presented the book. In some key aspects the author
seems to use very childish language structure and in others
parts it is mature. Overalll, this made the book difficult to
read.

. It was a bit like reading a diary of a wimpy kid, it has the

looked at this book I didnt really want to read it - it looked
too thick , but I pushed my self and I have read it and I am
glad I did. It's so funny I was in stiches . The pictures in
it are realy cool they just make the book amazing and the way
that the writing is done is cool as well because some of the
words are in different text to stand out to go with what it is
saying on that page . Dont let the thickness put you of reading

Tom Gates Everything's amazing was the funniest book I ever
read. The best part was when mrs worthington was standing so
close to tom that he found him self counting her hairs on her
face. I would recommend this book to all ages raed this book
and it will make you laugh your socks off.

Jasmine from Year 7, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

I absolutely love this book!
Tom Gates is a boy with a pretty normal life until... MRS
WORTHINGTON finds out what tom calls her behind her back. The
book is like Tom's diary. He loves to doodle on books on toast
on anything and everything. Tom has a sister called Delia and
she's always wearing her sunglasses. If Delia talks to Tom it's
usually just to insult him and annoy him.

Tom's best friend is Derek who he is in a band with. Norman's
also in the band with Tom and Derek called 'Dog Zombies'. Tom's
birthdays coming up and he can't wait for his party at Dino
Village.

After all that there are loads more things for Tom to worry
about like: Ultraviolet pens, School disco DJ's, Games of
Champ, The Fossils, Mr Fullerman, soggy homework and letters in
the bottom of Tom's bag, too many to name.

This book is truly amazing and so funny to read. I like the bit

exactly a hard book to read but what's inside is extremely
funny.

Cerys from Year 6, Hatfield Sheep Dip Primary School:

I have read the book Everything's Amazing because the front
cover looks very appealing to children. Inside was a lot of
drawings which helped me to picture what was happening in the
book, also a selection of the words had patterns around which
helped me with the expression of the words. I liked the parts
where it showed you drawings because it made me laugh, as well
as that I liked that it was written in first person so it was
like I was really in the book with the rest of the characters.
It reminds me of Diary of a Wimpy Kid because it is witty,
silly and the drawings are simple. It was funny when the author
said that Tom thought his worst enemy Marcus looked like his
dog which looked like a rat! I would recomend this book to
children and teenagers because it was a great read and now I
think I will wear a short jumper like Tom!

Marks out of 10: 10

Keilana-Mai from Year 6, Hatfield Sheep Dip Primary School:

I have read the book Everything's Amazing because looking at
the blurb it sounded very exciting and it sounded real. It felt
like I was almost in the story, with the characters, also most
of the words had a fancy pattern around them which helped me
read them clearer, I liked the part were it showed you the all
of the funky pictures, because they were really funny. Its a
bit like another book that I had read in Year 5 but the one
that I had read wasn't as funny as this witty book. I would
reccomend this book to children of my age and I would also read
it again. Now I like wearing very small jumpers (like Tom). This
book was the best book that I had ever read.

Tom gates for me has been a good book. I like the bit where it
is his birthday and he wants to go to the dinosaur land to see
the dinosaurs in 3-D. Delia Tom's sister acts like she dosen't
really like Tom but Tom's favorite snacks are caramel wafers
and she actually get's him something he likes for his birthday.
In addition I think Liz Pichon's book Tom Gates will win.

Keagan and Brandon from Year 6, Montagu Academy:

This book is quite a good read if you are looking for a laugh.
It's like a diary of wimpy kid mark 2.

We really enjoyed this book because it is funny and pretty easy
to read. The best part of the book is when Tom's dad dresses up
as a Dinosaur. This really is embarrising for Tom.

Our favourite character is Tom because he always manages to
wriggle his way out of sticky situations.

The only downside to this book is that is not really a story
but we have enjoyed too much to give a 9.

Marks out of 10: 10

Jenni from Year 6, Montagu Academy:

I really enjoyed this book and it was one of my favourite books
out of the whole doncaster book awards. The story is about a
boy called Tom and his dad wants to be part of his school disco
and last year he did that and Tom was really embarresed. Then
Toms dad plans a party for Tom and he thinks it is going to be
very embarrasing because him and his friends have to go in a
dino truck, but in the end all of his friends found it amazing
and loved Tom. I would reccomend this book to people because it
is very easy to read and funny and i would definiteley read it
again.

I really enjoyed this book. I thought that the illustrations
were different to other books which made this book stand out to
me! In addition the author has built up a great story and you
really connect to the characters you're reading about. Also the
author is a really good writer and I hope that this book is the
winner of doncaster book awards 2012-2013! (This is my opinion)

Secondly the characters were fun to read about (etc)
Tom was hillarious as he was my favourite character.

The best bit of the story was when Toms dad dressed up as a
dinosaur and hired the dino van for Toms birthday I like this
bit because he reminds me of my parents and i'm sure your
parents aswell.

good to read if you want a laugh.

The book really inspired us to write more. This book is
different because it is set out like a diary and the
illustrations are AMAZING! We both think that we haven't got a
best bit in the book because it is all fantastic. Our favourite
character is Tom because he is hillarious.

This book is our favourite, so we are going to carry on reading
more.

BOOK THAT CAN BEAT THIS IN THE BOOK AWARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

called Tom who has a party and goes to dino village in a dino

girl. The most boring part is when he keeps been naughty at
school because it just keeps happening. My least favourite
character is delil because she always makes fun of Tom.
I would deffantly read this book again! I rate this book a 9
ITS GREAT!

Cavan and Josh. from Year 6, Montagu Academy:

We really thought this book was good and very funny especially
the part where mr Fullerman had lemons on his eyes. The author
kept us interested by putting lots of humor in the parts where
it is suitable and having alot of dilemmas. Me and Josh both
read this book and enjoyed every part of it so we would
recomend this book to other children and think it should win
Doncaster book awards.

Marks out of 10: 10

Estelle from Year 6, Montagu Academy:

this book was pretty good. I liked it when the grandma made
weird snacks like carrot sticks and custard and he stepped in
it. I also liked the bit where he made a drawing of the teacher
with the lemon eyes!

But the worst thing about this book was that it wasn't just one
whole story it was little bits of his life put together. Plus
this book was easy. Too easy. I like a challenging book with
hard words in like ones that i havent heard before then i can
get a dictionanary and work out what the words are!

Marks out of 10: 3

Owen & Oliver from Year 6, Montagu Academy:

I realy enjoyed this book it made me laugh so much as I read
on. The best part of this book is the part where he goes on his
birthday. I would recomend this book to year 5 and 6 children
since it's easy to read even though it is very thick. It has
convinced me and my friends to read other of the Tom Gates
books!

Marks out of 10: 10

Anna from Year 6, Barnburgh Primary School:

I think that this book was very funny but i think it was more
like a comic than a story book. My favorite bit was when tom
gave marcus the top which said "i am a massive idiot, fool,
strong pong," and when the grasshoppers jumped on his uncle! I
don't have a worst bit because i liked it all.

Katie from Year 6, Montagu Academy:

Tom Gates everything is amazing is an exceptional book. It
draws you into each and every single page making it impossible
to put down. It is amazing, fantastic, brilliant, exciting,
exhilerating story. Also I love books like that such as diary
of a wimpy kid by Jeff Kidney I have the collection. But I
think this book is better then that it has more pictures in the
story so if you don't get a part of the story easily you can
tell by the pictures what's going on.

In this story Tom Gates (who is the main character) is a kinda
of good guy, bad guy loves music and even more ca Caramel
wafers. Anyway Tom goes to school and to him it's dreaded
MATH'S but his his teacher who is called Mrs. Warthington Tom
slips his mouth and he says Mrs. Warthingtash because she has a
moustache. Soon it spreads round the school and he is
humiliated by people showing moustaches on their faces and all
sorts. On the other hand Toms birthday comes up and he goes to
Dino Village with all his friends which is not including
Marcus. Also Tom gets five merits on his writing but changes it
to fifty-five merits to make Marcus jealous.

My favourite character is probably Amy because she is sweet and
caring. Not selfish or centre of attention. My least favourite
character is Marcus because in the story it describes him as a
little dog that looks like a rat and he kinda does.
I think Liz Pichon has put lots of effort in this book and I'm
currently reading Tom Gates Best Book Day Ever and it Is
amazing. I would recommend this book to people who like fun and
humorous things. hope all you guys like it!

through it and I love it it is as good as the one I read befor
it (Exelent excuses and other good stuff) and When I have
finished this one I am going to read them all. Tom makes
everything funny. I also liked it in the first one that I read
(Exelent excuses and other good stuff) when marcus was caught
cheating on the gold star chart. It was funny when dad bourght
a dino van and tom has ended up inviting more people thatn he
should have to come to his party in the dino van. I recoend
this book to 9-12 years old because it has alot of humor in it.

this book then you really will laugh until you can't stop!

The book is about 10 year old Tom Gates and his life. He lives
with his older sister, Delia, who he torments until she
screams, and his mother and father. The book tells a
hilarious, illustrated story that you will never get bored of!

I recomend it to any reader from 5 to 100! Read it and you

I really liked Tom Gates Everthing's Amazing (Sort of)because
it is a great and funny book.

At first I didn't think that I was going to read it because it
has 406 pages then I thought to myself it looks like a really
good book so i started reading it. When I got past the first
page I couldn't put it down.

I would recomend it to anyone who likes to read (but not alot)

In this book there's a boy called Tom who has a really weird
hairstyle. He is always getting into trouble by his teachers Mr

This book is amazing (sort of) and I have read all the other

Tom Gates Everything’s Amazing
(Sort Of)
By L.Pichon

WOW! What a book! I love Tom Gates because you can always get
into the story. However, in some books you can not get into the
story straight away but this book caught my eye!! Amazing !!!

I like the bit where Marcus was getting excited for maths (I
know I would not joke) and Tom was not happy so he copied from
Amy ( the one he fancies). She is amazing at topics ( and he is
not ). The only thing he is good at is making stuff for his
band called ( DUDE3). The other part I enjoyed is where he does
not like vegetables such as: carrot's, peppers and many more
things. His grandma put pizza but she put banana in it and his
enemy the (VEGETABLES) LOL!!

So I would suggest to those people out there to read Tom Gates!
We would also like to see more Tom Gates soon in 2013 :)

My friend who is Hungarian loves to read Tom Gates books
because it is funny and easy to understand :)

I really enjoyed this book. I thought it was really funny and
humorous and it is suitable for ages 9-12. The best part of the
story was when Tom called Miss Worthington Miss Worthingtash
(she had a thick, black moustache on her top lip!)

Its my favourite book of all time. You have to read more into
the book to understand it but once you do you will never forget
what happens. This book is really exciting and I love it.

I really recommend this book and everyone will enjoy it and I
hope this book becomes very popular.

Our first opinion on this book was the front cover was very
bright and we like good, interesting covers because we think it
makes you want to read the book even more.

We both like diary entry stories such as Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
We also like this book because we enjoy looking at all the
doodles he draws. This book is hilarious and we love it!!! Our
favourite part is when his jumper shrinks and the next day
everyone is wearing a jumper that is too small for them as they
think it is a new fashion trend!!!
As well as that, when Tom was in the classroom, he said Mrs
Worthingtash (because she has a thick moustache on her lip!)
instead of Mrs Worthington and when he got told off he sneezed
and he said Mrs Worthingtashooo!!!
I would recommend this book to children aged 8-12.

Tom Gates Everything is Amazing (sort of) is epic. It is a
first person story from an ordinary boy with an annoying
sister.(I know how he feels)

If you don't like it because you don't like thick books take a
look, inside there is all sorts of cool writing and pictures.
Just look for the yellow book with big pictures and black
writing on it.

It is the best book in the world I have read so far and have

Gates Excellent Excuses And Other Good Things and so far it is
good.
