Eloise from Year 7, Danum Academy:

Itch is a wonderful book with an amazing storyline. Everything
you need to know about the characters and the setting is in the
book. A young boy called Itch has an unusual hobby and knows
some pretty unusual people. Elementally, if you love adventure
or sci-fi you will love Itch.

Matthew from Year 7, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

This story is about a boy who is an element hunter. He finds a
new element (126) and it gets taken to send to Switzerland, so
he steals it back. The bit I liked best was when Itch
accidentally brings arsenic to school and poisons his entire
class. My favourite character was Itch because he blows
himself up at the start of the book. I thoroughly enjoyed the
book, it is a funny, gripping tale with many twists and turns.

cameron from Year 7, The Laurel Academy, Mexborough:

This book is brilliant, but the first two chapters could have
been a bit better. All in all one of the best books i have ever
read.

Thomas from Year 6, Montagu Academy:

Itch has been one of my favourite books in the book awards
because it is all sciencetific and there is action. Itch is
just a nickname his real name is Itchingham Lofte. the villain
of the book is docter Flowerdrew. Itch has these rocks what
Flowerdrew wants because they are a new type of rock so Itch
gives it him and he ends up with 7 more. The rock what
Flowerdrew has is stolen by Itch and his cousin Jack. The rock
was about to be sent to Sweden but it couldn't because Itch
took it. Flowerdrew ends up putting Itch in hospital. Because
he took the rock. Flowerdrew wants the rock so bad he ends up
kidnappinig Itch.

an amazing heart pacing book. i just didnt want to put it down
as it is an exciting blend of fact and fiction which created an
amazing adventure for the ultimate power source.

I absolutely LOVED this book! Couldn't take my eyes off it! So
interesting. I love the strange experiments that Itch does.
Especially the wallpaper that he takes into class. The srange
thing was that we had been talking about the elements in our
science class !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Charlotte W from Year 5, Hayfield School:

This book is brilliant. It is about Itch, just an ordinary 14
year old boy who loves the table of the elements. He is
desperate to collect every single one. However, when he comes
across some very strange and powerful radioactive rocks, he
gets a whole lot more than he bargained for. EVERYONE wants
Itch's rocks and Itch must make sure they don't fall into the
wrong hands, as it could change the world for the worst. With
brilliant characters and plot this book won't disappoint. If
you don't like science, it doesn't really matter, the book is
just as good!!!

Katie from Year 6, Montagu Academy:

This book was a challenging book for me, it's not been like any
other book I've red in the Doncaster book awards. Since it was
a challenging book dosn't mean it's the best book for everyone
and I'm that everyone. Im one of those people which science is
not my best subject but sometimes I'm good at it so part of the
book made me feel shocked.
My favourite piece of the book is two things when his eyebrows
set a fire and poisoned his entire class with arsemar or
something, parts of this book was funny and some not. I would
recommend this book for people who love science. So read and
see if you like it!

Rowan from Year 7, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

I thought this book was AMAZING! I loved every single part of
it, The story line is about Itchigham Lofte and he finds this
rare artifact so he looks at his periodic table and sees it
isn't on there so this is 127th element and it causes many many
disruptions.

I would defenetliy recommend this book who likes science and
adventure because this is 100% the book for you!

My favourite part in the book is at the beginning when Itch is
doing an experiment with phosphorus (an element) and he burns
his eyebrows of and his mum pretends to realise he hasn't then
right at the end of the conversation she says been burning your
eyebrows off have you?

Read this book it is AMAZING!!

Sarah from Year 8, Rossington All Saints School:

I thought that this book had an array of different writing
skills shown through the tale of this young element collector.
Simon Mayo really thought about this book which has many a good
idea strung together however it is questionable as to the way
in which he finishes it.
The blurb is really well written and entices the reader
perfectly.
A good read all round with a few minor flaws however an amazing
start to the world of novels. My favourite Doncaster book
awards story yet.

Brooke from Year 7, De Warenne Academy:

This book is the best book in this year exept for Shadow of the
Hawk. My favorite part this might make me a horrible but its
when itch gets beaten up by dr Flowerdew at school.

Casey-jo from Year 6, Doncaster Road Junior School, Mexborough:

This book was ok but i have read better not really that good. I
give it 8 out of 10 becasue when i got to middle it was getting
a bit boring.

Peter from Year 8, Hayfield School:

This would be a pretty awesome book, but because i have the
attention span of a mushroom, i stopped on page 81 in a book of
422 pages. Im not really much into elements, and what i've
heard, the storyline is Itch finds a new rock.
(Whoop-de-doo...)

Marks out of 10: 8

Thomas from Year 6, Owston Park Primary School:

I would give this book a 9 out of 10 because this book is
really cool and detailed. The best part about this book is the
first part where he sets his eye brows on fire. This book is
really big but it only takes a couple of days to finish it

Marks out of 10: 9

Emma from Year 6, Doncaster Road Junior School, Mexborough:

I would give this book 3/10 because it is good but a bit too
much of a boy book than a girl but from then i found it
interseting so that is why i would give it a 3/10.

Marks out of 10: 3

Holly from Year 7, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

This book is absolutely amazing. I especially love the story
line. The main character is called itchingham lofte. My
favourite part was when Itch was doing an experiment with
phosphourus and he set his eyebrows on fire. My favourite
character is Itch because he is very adventurous. The book is
manly about itch finding an element that no csientist had found
and anyone who wants it would not stop to get it.

Marks out of 10: 10

Ellie from Year 5, Saltersgate Junior School:

Itch is a really adventurous book with lots of explosions. I
would recommend Itch to people with an imagination to let run
wild.Since i read this book i have been more adventurous and am
really glad that i read it...YOU MUST READ ITCH !!! ITCH IS A
BOOK THAT IS DYING TO BE SCRATCHED.

Marks out of 10: 10

Katie from Year 6, Montagu Academy:

I felt this book perhaps wasn't the best then any other I've
read, just because I'm not really a science kind of person.
In this story Itchington (Itch) Lofte had caused so many
explosions people couldn't take it no more, so he is going to
prove he is the best kid scientist ever!!
My favourite character is Itch because he suffers from burning
eyebrows.
I would recomend this book to people who love science and the
smell of burning eyebrows, also people who love to read!!!

Marks out of 10: 4

maggie from Year 7, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

Itch is the best book in the world. If you like science and
adventure then this book is for you. Itch and Jack are my
favourite characters.

elise clarke from Year 6, Owston Park Primary School:

itch is a very scientific book and if others read it they will
probably learn a lot of new things. its not the best of books
but still very intresting. it is very funny when he burns his
eyebrows.

thankyou for reading

Owen from Year 7, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

I think this book is a funny book. It is funny when he sets his
eyebrows on fire at the beginning. My favourite character was
Itch because he likes doing science and blowing things up which
is just my thing. I would recomend this book to anyone who
likes a good laugh.

Marks out of 10: 10

Katie from Year 6, Montagu Academy:

I'm not really a science person but I sort of enjoyed it
because some bits made me laugh but most didn't. These bits was
a bit funny for me well only Two bits when his eyebrows set on
fire and Chloe just chucked water on him and his name
itchinghem or something like that but... most made me not
becacause even though I understood all the scientific words and
I know what they mean. Also I think that it was all jumbled up.
What made me read the book was the blurb I red that and I
thought I could connect with the story but when I red it all I
didn't. The cover I thought wasn't really about the story
because it didn't look scientific and that is what the story is
about science.
I would say that this book is recommended to people who love a
know all about science so since I'm not that kind of person I
rated it a 4/10.

Elliemay from Year 7, Adwick Park Junior School:

I was excited to read this book, the cover really caught my
attention. The genre of this book is science ficton, its not my
type, but I really enjoyed this book! I could`nt stop reading!

The story is about a boy called Itch! (His really name is
Itchingham!), Has a cellection of Elements, from the perodic
table.
His lastest experment has made him lose his eyebrows. And he
made class I'll with poison gass!!

THIS story is one of my favorite books to read!!!!
You will be Itching to read on ! :-)

"itch" by simpn mayo is a thrilling book with a great
storyline. my favorite part was when itch brought some arsenic
into school, and it poisoned everyone. be sure to download the
free itch book app, wich literally brings the front cover to

did not enjoy much. I felt that this book was more for boys and
people interested in science i would recomend this book to
those type of people. Alothough i Did have a favourite
charactor Jack. Thank you fro reading my review

I haven't read all of it yet but what i have read is REALLY
good. He is a element hunter which means you collect the table
of elements. He accidentally almost kills his class with arsine
gas which is poisonous but luckily, no-one dies. Although they
close the school until they find the sauce of the gas.An
Amazing book recommended for ages 10 and up

Itch is probably a boys and girls book .
If you like the Table of Elements and science and things like
that then this is the book for you .

It is about a boy called Itchingham Lofte and he is obsessed
with science as well as the table of elements and blowing
things up plus the only friends he really has are his sister
and his cousin .

However it was so unmemorable, I forgot the ending .

When itch gets a special present from cake (a element seller)
it is found to be highly radioactive and his science teacher

itch steals it back but is now in danger of the radioactivity
AND his evil science teacher. ALL this but not before
explosions, poisoning and more

Itch was very good book because the main character Itch is
science mad and in the opening he is quite a strange character
who is forced to move all his sciency stuff in the shed. Also
I found it funny when he blew his eyebrows off. Then after the
holidays he has to go to school with no eyebrows and the bit
what i liked most was when his sister asked him if he wanted
any eyeliner.
