Owen from Year 8, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

This book is brilliant and scary at the same time. It is full
of horror. B Smith knows what it is like to see your friend
slowly turn into a zombie or brians being eaten.

Darren Shan is the master of horror. I loved this book, but it
is very Scary! The only bad thing about it is it took a long
time to get the zombies into the book.

Tyler from Year 6, Thorne King Edward Primary School:

largely. i have read most of his books including all the

Adelaide from Year 8, De Warenne Academy:

I think the writer does a good gob bringing the picture to life
in the readers head however the story moved to slowley for me
so I got lost in the middle.

Marks out of 10: 6

Beth from Year 6, Saltersgate Junior School:

This book is too scary for 10 year olds.

This is unsuitable. It made me cry in my sleep.

It is about B Smith and their friends and there town is invaded
with ZomBs.

Their dad is a bully and is very racist.

I'm giving it an honest 7/10.

I did not like it one bit.

Marks out of 10: 7

ben from Year 7, Ridgewood School:

was a very good book it will make your boold curlle

#beeware of the zombiems

Daisey from Year 9, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

I must admit it was quiet good but when the action started it
lacked in adventure and i got confused by "Becky" I thought
she/he was a boy but obiously not. She has a shaved head and it
insinuates she is a boy, its like Darren changed his mind at
the end. I liked the mystery of the owl man and the reality
like it could happen. My favourite character is b because
she/he is a strong person and very brave ! Overall I wouldn't
recommend this book it was disappointing and lacking in the
usual Darren Shan touch.

Marks out of 10: 6

Daniel from Year 8, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

I gave ZOM-B a 10/10 because i think that the book has a
fantastic mix of action adventure and slight mystery.

The story starts of in a small town that has been attacked by
zombies and you are put right in the middle of the action.
After that you are put in the middle of a teenager's everyday
life which i think lets you get to know the character's.

I like how the story starts in the middle of action then goes
to normal and then finishes on action, its adds a posative
effect onto the book and makes it generally better to read.

My favourite character has got to be B because he is a
classical teenager and makes me think of myself.

There is nothing that i dislike about this book which is why I
gave it 10/10

Sam from Year 8, Rossington All Saints School:

Let me start by saying, that when a big change happens our mind
will try to tell us it is not happening, and writer Darren Shan
uses this in his book to create a mystery and a sense of true
dread. The book also has an ethical turmoil as the
protagonist's father is racist and a wife beater. Now ask
yourself, could you love a man like this if he was your father?
All this comes together to make a remarkably interesting book,
one I would definitely read again.

call it a favourite and i would reccomend it to fans of darren

If you're into gore, guts and fowl language, well this is the
book for you! B smith is living with a racist, thug and a
bullying father and is on the tip of adult life as a zombie
infestation sweeps the nation. This has to be one of my
favourite books Ive read so far! I'm looking forward to reading
the sequel.

Ellie from Year 7, Rossington All Saints School:

This terrifying book by Darren Shan was interesting to read.
It made me gag at every gory detail, but kept me turning page
after page of fright, gore and thrill.

Darren Shan is truly the "Master Of Horror".

Abby from Year 10, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

Zom-B is about, you guessed it, zombies. The main character, B.
Smith, lives in London and it follows their life as news of a
zombie outbreak in Ireland spreads. Nobody realy believes the
stories, thinking it's a media trick or advertisement for a
movie, so continue with their normal lives, laughing and joking
about the "zombies" despite the threat they supposedly pose.

B. Smith's story doesn't revolve aound the zombies, though, it
follows their struggle to face their father, to face the fact
that he's a bigger monster than the zombies due to his racist,
abusive personality.

B. Smith is my favourite character due to their genderless
identity, until the final chapters of the book. I find this
quite symbolic of the stereotyping potrayed in the book, that
boys get into fights and girls gossip, that girls have long
hair and boys have short or shaven hair.

I really liked this book, it was a great new edition to Shan's
legacy. I would recommend it to people who like horror and
gore, but when reading this be repared for a realistic aspect
to the story involving the everyday struggle of humanity and
morals.

Zom-b is an amazing book filled with gore. Its one of those
books where you cant tell if the main character is a girl or
boy and I'll leave that to find out for yourself .This book is
truly amazing then again this is coming from a Darren Shan fan
who has always loved his books,I got my own copy of this book
signed and it was worth the 3 hour line..This book is about a
person who lives in what is described as a poor neighbor hood
with gangs and stuff, so the main character has had a rough up
bringing by an abusive father who also is a racist. The main
character goes by the name B and seems the be the big bully who
has lots of fights and all the teachers are scared of him;at
the start this put me off as I am surrounded by these types of
people but the story gets interesting quick and you become
glued to the book.. The town is spread by rumors of a zombie
attack by the news and people believe that its all fake. The
story becomes more believable when the virus is spread into
town and attacks B's school they have to find a way out but the
exits have been sealed. I find this book inspiring whilst
others may find it off putting but I like the way that he says
Ii'm not going to follow his dads footsteps I'll make my own
choices. .Overall this book is amazing and definitely a must
read. Seriously this book is the new type of zombie books.

town full of zombies

Jess from Year 9, Danum Academy:

Zom-B by Darren Shan is a truly outstanding novel.

B Smith is an ordinary teenage girl. She hangs out with her
friends, chills out on the laptop and gets stuck in the middle
of a zombie apocolypse. Her racist father won't beleive at
first when he sees it on the news, but when the apocolypse
advances on B's school, they will all be forced to admit that
the news was right and they were wrong.

this book is an astonishingly good read which i recomend to
anyone.

Tamsyn from Year 8, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

This book is about a girl called B and how her life is like at
the start of the zombie plauge. I like this book becouse it has
lots of action/horror. The 1 thing I dislike about this book is
that the first couple of pages of the book made me feel sick
the way Darren Shan described it. I would highly reccomend this
book to any one who has strong guts. Overall this is a
fantastic book but there are some things that are a bit boring
so in my opinion I will give this book a 9/10

Marks out of 10: 9

Liam from Year 7, Rossington All Saints School:

This book is a book of horror and suspense. This is a book
about B's life, he has a lovely mum and a horrible dad that is
a bullying racist thug. The farther/Todd beats B's mother. At
the end something like a zombie apocalypse starts. B could get
away from the zombies to freedom but his dad made him kill
someone called Tyler that helped them get out the school of
zombies alive, so he ran away from his beast like farther into
the zombies. **(spoiler alert! Ed.)** But all together I really
enjoyed it.

euan from Year 7, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

I would recommend this book because I lick the story line and
the blood , guts and gore! My favourite character was Brian
because he has problems like me and he is in trouble.

Marks out of 10: 10

Rowan from Year 8, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

This book is an action adventure, this book is about a kid, a
high school kid, who's nicknamed 'B' his dad is a racist and a
alcoholic he has a bad temper and hits B and his mum.A series
of events goes down in Ireland, including what reporters are
calling Zombie attacks, his father says it's a load of rubbish.
Eventually, even after denying that zombies are real and
ignoring the news, zombies come to London attacking B's school.

Overall this book is amazing it is one off the best books I
have read, i give it 10/10 on it's writing i give it 10/10 on
it's story line, it is a fantastic book!
it is a Marvelous book you must Pick it up, and read it!

Marks out of 10: 10

Marcus from Year 8, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

This book is very good because he thought that the zombies
would never hit London but it turns out that he was wrong. He
explains the story very well and as well he has all these funny
dreams about babies and when he had that dream that was when
they hit London. When the zombies first attacked they had
started on the outskirts and made their way inland. The first
place were they hit was in a museum and this man took a womans
baby. After that they started to hit schools and the last one
that got hit was the school that Tyler was at. At the end the
author left it on a cliffhange.r

Cameron from Year 8, Don Valley Academy and Performing Arts College:

It's about a young boy who struggles with some strange problems
such as a racist Dad and a zombie apocalypse.
I liked that this book was really exciting. My favourite
character was B-Smith. I liked him because he's a very strong
willed person. There was nothing that I disliked about this
book.
I would recommend this book because it's amazing and will put
anyone on the edge of their seat!

Elizabeth from Year 6, Saltersgate Junior School:

This book is fantastically amazing! I would read it over and
over again if I had the chance. I will defifitely read more
Darren Shan.A shock ending that, I can tell you now, nobody
would ever expect. His books are a scary, alien contrast with
reality. I would not recommend it for children under 12 because
there was a LOT of bad and difficult language and vocabulary. I
deeply love Darren Shan's book ZOM-B.

Marks out of 10: 10

elizabeth from Year 8, De Warenne Academy:

it up on a comuer and b agreeing with him. i wud give tis book
10/10 and recommend this to 10 yrs and up because i ve deah
and blood. i think everybody will love this book

Joe from Year 7, Hayfield School:

Zom-B is a excellent book. I would suggest this book to 12-16
year olds who like a bit of an adventure mixed with a bit of
gore. This book does contain mature content suitable for
readers 12 years and over (curse words and gory depictions). I
would class this book as horror.. It is about a 15 year old
girl who has a father that is a racist and that hits her she
loves him but deep down she really hates him. She attends a
secondary school where there is a zombie outbreak...

Adele from Year 7, Hayfield School:

It's really good! it's really good illustrated. but sometimes
it goes on about the same thing for to long. Once i start i
cant't stop reading it. It is sooooooo good i recommend it for
my age or over. The book describes it very goodly so i can
image what happens in the story. I like horror story's but this
is the best one i have ever read. But it is very addictive a
bit to addictive.

Brooke from Year 8, De Warenne Academy:

I don't really like horror that much and I didn't like Darren
Shan's book last year either. But I thought this book was
really good once I got into it. The only bit I didn't like is
...[spoiler alert!! ed.] I recommend this book to people who
like Horror.
